I never watched/heard-of this show, but then the Serenity box art caught my eye so I rented it. Of course, that led to me borrowing the Firefly DVD's from my library. Probably zero chance of them ever making another movie, but I'm buying this anyway, just in case DVD sales might make it so.

Really great show mixing elements of westerns, sci-fi, action and drama. Well written and I love the theme song.

I think poor marketing is to blame for this as anyone I know who has seen the show likes it.

DVD sales brought back Futurama for a season or two. Wish they would bring that back entirely. I saw on IMDB that he is making a new futurama episode so maybe its coming back.

i've seen this as low as $15 at target. firefly sales made the movie happen so who knows.

guess i'll be the exception, i thought it was tacky nonsense with western theme just slapped on without thought. it was seriously overrated and overhyped by the net crowd which made it seem bigger than it was..with the truth being revealed when the film basically lost audience every day after opening.

ok deal on any dvd series i guess price wise.

Don't take it personally, but you're a lame-assed cow-plop that doesn't merit the oxygen required to sustain you. Some might differ in their interpretation. !

In a world encouraging "reality" [oh please, don't make those -"my reality"-] shows, FireFly was a loser. It can be criticized on several points which I'll largely ignore -- though one of which is "it was a Space-Western"... well, yeah, that theme was unavoidable when the premise was that the galactically-expanded habitats of humankind were isolated/primitive and required the rugged individualism and mining/ranching of the Olde West.

I've found few recent shows with as well balanced a set of characters and as much background warmth and humor. The Serenity crew were morally founded (save Jayne?) -- although ethically challenged by their circumstances -- w/o being obnoxious; the show was surprising and whimsical; it was humane in most of its relationships and problem-solutions; it wasn't falsely optimistic. Not a "24" [which I revere despite its hopeless surreality] where the hero repeatedly, single-handedly, surmounts "impossible situations"; not a "House" [which I love because Laurie and the writers are sooo talented] where negative attitudes prevail; not a "Lost" [which I can't miss because its entwined/interlaced back-stories keep a hopeless front-story interesting] where each episode ends with Pauline lashed to the rails; but a somewhat goofy tale of complex friendships which kept a space "family" marching into a grim future.

Well, I liked it. I found it disappointing (perplexing?) that it was canceled. I wouldn't recommend BUYing it as much as renting it (at first)... and if you don't at least try the first DVD, may the blue-gloved men of the Alliance catch you.... [Read Wiki's comments

You could be right about marketing or advertising this show period.

I don't watch alot of TV, and I didn't even know this show was on the air.

I saw the movie Serenity and was hooked. I had to buy the dvd series.

Was not dissapointed. The tv exec's blew it on this one.

I too am a huge fan of this show now, but only because a friend told me about how great it was after it had already come out on DVD - I don't remember a thing about it when it was being aired, but wish it would make a comeback!

I'm with Basilisk on this one - rent it, and if you like it, go buy it, maybe, just maybe it'll make a comeback based on sales, but I'm not holding my breath.

But if it does, I'll be there on my couch waiting for each episode!

lol, it leads right into season 2 that sadly never happens.

I think part of the reason that the tv show didn't catch on was because the Fox executives decided to air the episodes out of order. If I had seen the series in that order, I too would've been really confused. Make sure you watch it in Joss Whedon's order.

Don't forget, the 1st episode aired on Super Bowl Sunday. So the Super Bowl ran long and Firefly didn't start from the begining, it started already in progress.

I only saw the tv show after getting hooked by the movie. Great story and characters. Kind of like Gunsmoke in space. I never got why on earth people were into Buffy or Angel however: I couldn't stomach watching those shows...

I think Firefly came one right at the beginning of the end for network tv. 2002-03 were years when reality garbage started pervading the airwaves. Nowadays, unless a show can hook millions right away, it's dead. Such a shame because when you think of most "great" tv shows they started out slow and built up an audience e.g. Seinfeld, Cheers, Twilight Zone etc. I flipped through the channels yesterday (first time in a long time) and every network had some ridiculous reality drivel on. I mean... Who Can Do the Best Impression? Either that or it's a badly written sitcom with some tub-of-lard schlub with a hot wife arguing about who ate the last of the icecream. Really really sad... and degrading to us the viewer.
