Firefox 1.5 Goes to RC2

Well I was using Firefox 1.5 RC1 when an upgrade window popped up. So I upgraded and it seems that FF 1.5 has gone to RC2

I got the same thing. Strange how Mozilla's site doesn't have any information about it.

How often does firefox check for updates and where I can see what mine is set to? Since beta 1 I haven't gotten a single automatic update. I've had to go to the help menu and manually select check for updates.

...sorta.

"going gold" comes from when the developers have sent the final code to the publisher for distrobution -and it was typically sent on a gold CD.

What's new in 1.5 vs. 1.07?

The couple things I liked, that were noticeable:

1. drag and drop browser tabs... you can re-order your tabs within the same window, or simple drag them across two different Firefox Windows.
2. when clicking on any link from your email program, MSN, AIM, ICQ, etc, it will automatically open the link in a new tab. In 1.0.7, it always opened at the most-recent-active tab.

RC2 is the latest official build now.

when clicking on any link from your email program, MSN, AIM, ICQ, etc, it will automatically open the link in a new tab. In 1.0.7, it always opened at the most-recent-active tab.

That's not really new, that's just different configuration. Firefox has always been capable of it.

The thing that I'm most excited about is the svg support.

DL'd 1.5 last nite. Seems like 1.5 loaded up my 1.07 default profile automatically.....I read where there is a danger that 1.5 will update your 1.07 profile and thereby making it shakey to use again with 1.07. So I decided not to update the themes and extensions to work with 1.5. So far no problems going back and forth between 1.5 and 1.07.

My firefox just went gold, got the update screen for 1.5, nothing about rc anything in the about page anymore. Happened automatically, not avaliable for download .... yet

That's a little scary. I personally created another profile for trying out 1.5 and left the 1.0.x one seperate. I just choose which one each time I start firefox which is only when I start my machine anyways. I'll use the 1.0.x one with 1.5 as soon as I commit to the upgrade (maybe now?) but if you wanted to bring all your customizations along right away while still being safe, it probably wouldn't be too hard to duplicate a profile and rename.
