Firefox 27 Released

Now I see what you mean. So that means for now, Firefox 28 / 29 / Australis is a No Go for me, as I like that basic Firefox 3 Theme .. nice and simple.
Note: Just found this add-on: Classic Theme Restorer (Customize Australis)

Give it a shot with Australis and see how it does.

I switched to Chrome.

FireFox started not loading tabs. Like, I set it to remember all of my tabs on exiting, and every single time I started FireFox up - every single time, bar none - it would forget Facebook and Google Mail at the least, if not more. Plus, sometimes I'd type in a search string in the search bar, and it would do nothing. I'd have to hit enter again, for it to search.

Sometimes it would ask me if I wanted to save a file called like.php - huh?

And another website I visit, it would never remember my cookie for the site, so I would constantly have to login to it again.

Chrome does none of these things - it just worked.

you might wanna give Pale Moon a try! you'll never look back! it's Firefox on steroids but with the old retro look.

its code is optimized to make use of multi core CPUs and more RAM and its page loading speed is as fast as Chrome

I'm using that in my first screenshot. I put the tabs on bottom, added a statusbar, detached the forward/back buttons, and removed home and reload from the urlbar. I also got rid of the menu buttons cause I like the traditional menu. My tabs are Australis alternate. I like the curvy tabs, and I like seeing the outline of inactive tabs, at least for now. Square or curvy, the tab shape isn't a big deal to me as long as I can put them below the navigationbar.

It's close, but not quite as good as the original Firefox 3 Theme ... But I don't know just how much it can be customized and I might not be able to try that theme on Firefox 27
I guess someone will do a Firefox 3 Theme again after the new Firefox is finalized.

I would consider using Chrome again if it was more like Firefox.

With version 27 I noticed some odd things taking place. Some settings got reset. When I closed FF and re-opened it, the session ID didn't change and I was still able to get into things I should have been able to with a new session ID. I rebooted to fix.

But the issue of settings getting reset seemed suspicious. Under Privacy, the handling of histories were reset. Also, the auto-population for login was compromised for me. I do not know if others have experienced this, but version 27 was new and observed in only a negative way.

My red line is Zotero. As long as Zotero still works, I'll keep updating, but I really need that (it's a real pain to access journals outside of work without the automatic proxying). Outside of that and some minor ones (flashblock, adblock, etc.), I don't use a lot.

The first issue was when the idiots at Mozilla decided to redo the Download Manager, which was working just fine. They do not know about "if it works, don't mess with it"
However, that is somewhat fixable by adding a couple of extensions:

I just installed Download Manager Tweak and it works fine in Firefox 27.0.1
and I no longer need the other 2 addons. Only feature Download Manager Tweak is missing is an Audible Notification when the download completes.
Otherwise it works very well and has many options.

I got used to the new download manager, mainly because I don't use it all that much (I use DownThemAll! as my main download manager), but I didn't like the new download manager when I did have to use it. It was tolerable, for me at least, but not good.

So I installed and tested Downloads Window ( https://addons.mozilla.org/de/firefox/addon/downloads-window/ ) and I'm better off than I was BEFORE the new download manager was introduced, because that extensions is more customizable that Firefox ever was, and now it works JUST the way I like it.

Once again, the awesome of Firefox shows! All the more reason for me to not enable the auto-update feature. I'm not risking the dumb fucks at Mozilla screwing me over.

Morbus, try the last one in my post ... Download Manager Tweak .. very customizable and only needs an audible alert function added to tell you when the downloads are done (something I hope the developer adds soon) .. Note: I had Downloads Window, but it seems to be broken in Firefox 27.0.1

Thanks but I don't need that level of customization. As I said, I don't use the download manager that much, and all I want is for it to stay out of my way, and to stay open when I need it to. I have it set up so it doesn't appear automatically, but since it's a window, it won't disappear automatically either, which is how I want it to work.

Added functions are pointless since I use DTA!.

Doesn't make the slightest different. The only people that care about hendrix are the people who don't like this or that and use it to back up their stand. Mozilla doesn't read it for anything more than say "things are going merrily along".
