Pale Moon is... awesoooome. Thank goodness for FF's open source nature meaning endless tinkering.
I see the number of Pale Moon users is highly increasing after Mozilla decided to screw up what was once an awesome browser with an awesome interface

IE has had some pretty serious bugs, but i must admit the browser is fast and fluid. A few people I know use it and have never had any major problems. I don't use it, but I'm also getting the the point where Firefox isn't all the flash.

They did? I seem to have been removing Norton (360) more often (from customers' computers) than I used to since Win8 was released, crashing (silent or not), inexplicable error messages for which the only official solution is "remove it and put it back on again"... yikes.

I might have a poke at Norton Anti-Virus only to see if that still has a reasonable rep.

Hello,

Sorry to hear that you've seen compatibility problems on Windows 8 with Norton. I am Vineeth and I am from the Norton Support team.

The latest versions of Norton products are fully compatible with Windows 8 and Windows 8.1. Do you remember the version of Norton products you've seen on the computers where you encounter errors? The latest version should work (21.1) without any problems.

Let me know if you have any questions!

Thanks!

All I can say is they better allow us to use normal themes when Firefox 28 comes out. I do not like or want these Aero / Tablet themes. Too bland and just not to my and many other's liking. If they do not, I will stay with the last version that does what I want it to.

I wasn't aware that Norton 360 had two different version numbers (I assume I should look in a Help > About Norton type area for the actual version number), the highest number I think I've seen recently (shown on the uninstall screen I believe) is 6.0. Would users with active subscriptions have the option to do a free upgrade to the version you mention through their Norton account? If so, I'll give that a try first the next time I encounter such a problem with it.

In both cases that readily spring to mind, it was the version of Norton 360 that shipped with the Windows 8 PC. The most recent occasion was about three weeks ago, and the Norton icon would silently disappear from the 'notification icons list' (or be non-responsive when clicking on it, as well as the desktop shortcut not working), and seemingly at the same time, the computer would lose Internet connectivity (despite others on the same network not having any problems). Since removing Norton the problem hasn't re-occurred.

Thank you!

I think they have a version which is not compatible with Windows 8 or Windows 8.1. Norton 360 6.0 was released last year, and the latest version is Norton 360 21.1.

If they have a valid subscription for their Norton product, they are eligible for a free upgrade to the latest version. They need to visit the Norton Update Center (http://updatecenter.Norton.com) to update to the latest version.

Let me know if you have any questions!

Thanks!

If Firefox is not feeling all that fresh, try Pale Moon. I was skeptical for a long time but this new Chrome BS interface from Mozilla made me try it. And it is AWESOME! ()

Firefox 26 has completely got rid of the older downloads window (it used to be available with an about:config tweak). I think I might make the jump to Seamonkey, as their development mindset doesn't seem to be "look, shiny shiny Chrome".

Doesn't really matter what you have installed, as soon as you run across an ActiveX web site that is malicious it can take hold of your computer. Firefox doesn't use ActiveX and I have it blocked in the router flashed with DD-WRT. It's in the security features of the router.

Just looking out, man!

I need some help understanding what all this fuss is about. Is it a looks thing that everyone hates, or is it a compatibility issue that everyone hates?

Well that doesn't seem fare to judge a program on how it looks. Are there other issues that users have with it?

A lot of people do not like the fact that companies are ramming this pile of junk, metro style UI down our throats. Some people prefer the normal, older way, with nice icons and colors. Give the users the choice of what they want. It is only a Theme after all.

I don't know about everyone, but one of the reasons I've stayed with FF over the years is that if they decided to change the UI, I could change it back through their customisation features (most of the time - I try to avoid third party add-ons where possible because they can result in the program malfunctioning). However, with changes in FF 26 and 28 (re: 28 - judging by what they've done with 26), they're moving away from that and copying Chrome and enforcing those changes. I don't like how Chrome looks and works, I don't think it is intuitive.

I said I'd go with Seamonkey, but either it can't do what I want in terms of cookie storage, or it's not that apparent, but I've completed changing over to Pale Moon (though admittedly I'm worried about the fact that Pale Moon says that it is version 24).

While I acknowledge that people don't like change 'full stop', I think such people (including myself), they perceive it as "change for the sake of change" (and sometimes their reaction might be "dislike for the sake of dislike of change"), like the morons who wrote things like "Apple has to change the look of iOS in order to "keep up"... why? It looked fine, they've changed the colour scheme now... great.), and UI changes are rarely *necessary*.

In the case of the newer download manager that FF 26 now forces the use of, why do I have to start either using keyboard shortcuts or clicking in two different places to bring up the downloads window when it appeared automatically before, I don't perceive this as an improvement, and someone would have to try quite hard to convince me that it would actually help (even in "the long run") when it is actually hindering my productivity.

When software makers forget how to innovate, they copy competitors instead. It's just moronic.

IMO, the UI should only change (or come up with a system for opting into a UI change without having to avoid security updates), when it actually results in a productivity improvement, not because of some fashion-season-thing that serves no useful purpose as far as the end user is concerned.
