Personally, I do not care what the software engineers do with Firefox "under the hood"
My gripe is about not letting users easily customize the look. Me personally, I like the Firefox 3 look and in FF28 use a theme called: Firefox 3 Theme For Firefox 4+ Reloaded! 3.0.4.1 .. Firefox says it doesn't work in FF28, but it does. Gives me a nice simple clean UI .. Firefox should put the old theme option back in for those of us that want a nice clean interface. And for those that want it to look like Chrome or Windows 8 (tablet look) give them that choice.

Lol.......same gripe I have about W8.

God you guys are creatures of habit. You would think that on a tech site people would be a little bit more open minded, but time and time I get proven wrong.
It never ceases to amaze me that when it comes to hardware people always want the latest even if it's not better, but god forbid you change the look and feel of a piece of software. Then its fire and brimstone.

Because the changes usually don't work. How about you give me the keys to your house, and I'll rearrange things, and throw some of your stuff out. It's all cool right? Change is good after all...

You have no keys to the house. You're just invited to stay there. If you don't like it you can can either buy my house and do what you please to it or move on to the next house.

Firefox was born with the motto "take back the web". Firefox is the user's house, not Mozilla's.

Or it used to be, and that's how it grew. But now Mozilla thinks like Google, and like you, and they're losing marketshare by a LOT.

Serves them right. I couldn't care less, to be honest. The less people using the browser I use, and the geekier they are, the better and more secure my browser will be. Let all the ierks and chrometards run away to somewhere else, ain't nobody gonna miss them.

If it bothers you that much you can always build your own house. That way you can have it just the way you like it. I believe that's how Firefox was born.

You use a Microsoft based OS don't you? Win7 right?

Are you really suggesting that the average user forks his own version of Firefox if he isn't happy with whatever change Mozilla does? Isn't that a bit asinine?

Wouldn't it be much more reasonable for the company behind the browser to respect the values the browser stood by for half a decade, when it actually gained market share? I mean, is it really that much to expect the administration not to drive Mozilla into the ground like they seem to be doing? :|

Oh look a typical Morbus post. Filled with childish retorts and he's even stooping to using momma jokes.
Grow up princess.

The average user doesn't give a shit. They just use IE.

Thank you for the compliment, even though it wasn't meant to be one.

Granted the whole significance of my reply was lost on you, obviously. I never expected anything else, not because it's you (I couldn't care less for your internet persona, have no idea what other posts you make), but because people usually don't realize the fallacies in their arguments, sometimes even when you explain it to them. It's only natural for you not to get it when you hadn't even resorted to said fallacies.

Don't feel bad. Most people aren't in touch with their... well, I'm gonna say brains, but that's not really the word I'm looking for.

Never you mind, little fellow, never you mind.

:EDIT:
Thought process. I meant thought process.

Sorry, not a native speaker.

You wrote "The average user" not The average firefox user!
Either way most people don't care. It's only IT tech heads that care about these sort of changes and we aren't a majority.

I'm sorry I wasn't explicit.

Anyway, I don't think that's really the case. I think plenty of Firefox users do care. Over the last two or three years Firefox lost half of its market share. Much of it was due to the rapid release cycle, which led to broken extensions, which led to extension developers dropping development of their extensions, which led to fewer extensions, yadda yadda yadda.

I think this is just another nail in their coffin. And I was once a Mozillian myself. Not anymore, cause these days to be considered a Mozillian, you have to actually get paid by Mozilla.

BS, they're full of BS. Mozilla is not Mozilla anymore.

I switched to Pale Moon and won't go back. Especially after Mozilla ousted their CEO. I'm even going as far as ditching Thunderbird and going with Postbox Express.

Looks like the update is now live at least when you check within the browser.
So far, it's ok. I may get used to the new look, but what I hate is that there is no option to revert back without an addon, like many others have said. argh!!! what happened to customization mozilla?

It seems to be available now. Earlier today i went to the firefox download page and was told "Great you have the latest version" as in v28. However now it offered me v29. So seems like it's 100% live now.

It does feel like it is a bit faster too, so that is good. I think the changes aren't completely bad, and will take a bit of getting used to. I think it is unfortunate that they are making it look like chrome instead of a more unique or cutting edge design. I wonder how much input goooogle had in the design process??

Obvious.

Mozilla is getting a lot of crap for this... crap.

I'm staying with 28. Don't even want to imagine the sheetstorm that will be when I finally try my profile on version 31 or 32... After having backed it up, obviously.

Well my Firefox 28 updated to version 29 and it's an unmitigated disaster

Looks like a theming issue. I think it would be safe to say old themes won't work on the new builds, unless they're being actively updated.

I sure hope they decide to offer a way to keep the previous design (but likely not).
Many people are using the Classic Theme Restorer, but in reading reviews, it's not the perfect solution.

I was reading all the comments here and many people say since it's now like Chrome, they're going to use Chrome. After trying Chrome a few months ago, there were several things I didn't like, so FF is a lot better IMO. So the people saying they're going to just use Chrome doesn't make much sense, other than just for sake of boycotting.

I love the design of FF29. I was already happy with FF since I started using it in beta around 0.96 (and Netscape before that), but this is definitely better. Much cleaner, and removed most of the items I had on the address bar line and put them in the hamburger menu.

A+++++ would download again. Pleasantly surprised, and usually I hate change to avoid 'surprises'.
