FF 39 still slows down and crashes with scripts. It even stops when trying to play battlefield 3.

Firefox 39 crashes in Win XP if the Norton toolbar is enabled. I'm stuck with XP because of incompatibility issues with peripheral hardware.

Hello dkozloski,

Could you tell us what is the name and the version of Norton program you are using? Also let us know the version of Norton toolbar added to firefox?

The issue with the scroll wheel not working and menu's disappearing with FF 38 when clicking on a link from within a private browsing window seems to have been fixed. See the Firefox 38 thread for details of the issue.

(This fix doesn't seem to appear in the change log nor is is specifically called out as 'fixed' in the bug report that I and others have submitted. Regardless, it now seems to work correctly).

I noticed i had an issue with FF38 as well. My router webpage has a drop down listbox that allows me to select wifi channels. But since this update 38, i am unable to select anything in that drop down listbox while it always used to work. I now had to use IE as a temporary fix and with opera it always used to work. I will update to FF39 to see if this issue is fixed as well.

The operating system is Win XP SP3 build 2600. I'm using Norton Internet Security version 21.7.0.11 with all updates and the included Norton Toolbar version 2014.7.12.28. Firefox 39.0 will load in safe mode but If Norton Toolbar is enabled Firefox crashes every time it's started. I've tried clean installs of several older versions of Firefox and they do the same thing. I can't upgrade to Norton 360 because I have hardware restrictions and the processor doesn't support the required instruction set. Norton Toolbar works in IE8 on the same machine.

Hello dkozloski,

Could you provide a screenshot of all the add-ons/toolbars enabled in Firefox?

Still use FF 28.0 - Works great with add ons and extension under Win7 64-Bit Sp1 - Tried newer versions and always went back to v28.0.

Works fine here but I think for me it's switching to the HTML 5 player.

Would some mind seeing if they have problems watching this video in Firefox?

All I get is a black screen. I was getting all black screens on Youtube since upgrading to 39 until I added
media.mediasource.webm.enabled
to my about:config. This is the first one to still be a problem.

Thanks, it's using the HTML5 player for me too. And it played when I started in safe mode so I guess I'll have to track down which plugin is breaking this specific video. But before I was failing the MSE & WebM VP9 check here:
https://www.youtube.com/html5
and had to add that setting to get any Youtube videos to play across two different computers.

Works fine here in Firefox 39, but I have no idea if YouTube is set to HTML5 or not or even where to find the setting to check what it is set to.

If you right-click the video you can tell from that which player it's using.

I also get a black screen on this one:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=unnLg1TPCYM
It's listed as mime type:video/mp4;codecs="avc1.4d401e" which is similar to the first (that last e was an f instead). Videos that do play are listed as different types. For example mime type:video/webgl;codecs="vp9" here:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0WWzgGyAH6Y

All videos play in safe mode fine, but the mp4 ones do not play in normal mode with all my add-ons disabled. So what does Firedox's safe mode do besides disabling all your add-ons?

Edit: OK, I think resetting the gfx. strings that weren't default in about:config has fixed it.

That one works as well. Seems I am using Flash Player ... hopefully HTML 5 will become the defacto standard soon, but some puzzles, like at http://www.uclick.com/client/dmn/fcx/ still l use swf flash. I guess they will switch over to a method tthat does not use flash in the future.

Sweet, no way to bypass their fixed security now. No more logging into old Tomato router with https enabled.

They had tried that a few versions back, then reverted. Looks like they don't care anymore.

Are you saying, that they are forcing HTTPS everywhere, now, with no way to manually specify it in the URL bar?

I just use VirtualBox with USB pass-through when I need to use my old scanner or SmartMedia reader that only work in WinXP....

Today I tried to view Microsoft one drive with ff39 and all it did was crash on me. I had to go back with ie11 so I could see my files without issue.

That's strange. Can you even log in to onedrive site?
Maybe it's an addon too, I'd see if it happens with addons disabled and then go through them. I had a problem with netflix recently and it was an addon setting that needed to be tweaked.
