What happens if you disable cleartype and keep HW accel on?
then there's no difference - fonts look the same regardless if you have Hw accel or not - sharp, not smoothed.

here is extension for those that want status bar back https://addons.mozilla.org/en-us/firefox/addon/status-4-evar/

How did you get Firefox 3 style buttons in Firefox 4 ? ? ?
I do not see that anywhere and I despise the new icons.
That's odd... on the several machines i've tried so far including mine, both startup and other general loading has been noticeably faster.
I had to turn hardware acceleration off. The fonts are just god-awful. There's no reason it should look any different than GDI + Cleartype. With HW acceleration it feels like I'm using Linux without the MS Core Fonts.
Ditto. The font is TERRIBLE. Turning off hardware acceleration fixed the font.
I realize this is free software but come on.
One big downside I'm seeing so far with the hardware acceleration. Any significant browser use will cause my 6950 to throttle up to full speed for a few seconds. As a result my card (already idling hot thanks to dual monitors) runs some 4-5 degrees warmer when doing heavy browsing. Can't be very good for laptop users either.
I know there's no status bar like the one in FF3. All I see now is a popup on the bottom left side of the screen that shows the URL of the screen that's loading. Is there any way to move that to the bottom left side of the screen? It's annoying when it pops up and it covers the bookmarks at the bottom when I have the bookmarks pane open.
funny, i have the same card and have had 0 problems with the card throttling up. temps stay pretty even. of course i am only using 1 monitor too.One big downside I'm seeing so far with the hardware acceleration.
