Going to switch back. Too many crashes and it's a memory hog.

I'm hoping that uninstalling FF4 not deleting my profiles and when reinstalling 3.6.16 it will use my same profiles?
Funny you would just switch back instead of figuring out what is wrong with your PC to make FF4 crash at all and hog memory. Because it's solid and uses no more memory than the competition.

Funny how memory usage is greater on both my laptop, desktop and work laptop.

I have played around with disabling the plug-in container, hardware acceleration and webgl.

I'll wait til either an extension that might be causing the issue is updated, mozilla releases a fix or a website I frequent updates their java/flash code.

Why should I have to deal with crashing on three different pcs when I have zero crashing with less memory usage with 3.6.16?

OK, I investigated a bit and see that the problem for me won't be FF4 directly, but the fact that two essential add-ons are not compatible with it right now: Smart Bookmarks Bar and Tiny Menu. The first one lets me add bookmark button links to a toolbar while disabling their names (unless I hover over them), which keeps the buttons very small. The second one makes my menus compact.

Looking through the add-ons' comments, a work around will allow me to edit a file for Smart Bookmarks Bar and fool FF4 into thinking it is compatible so it'll work. Tiny Menu needs to be re-worked for FF4 according to the author, and he is not sure if he wants to do it.

I really like that add-on since it lets me fit only my wanted menus on the menu bar. The regular way takes too much room and would make me add a tool bar; I don't want that. We'll see if he updates, or if someone makes a similar add-on.

For the first issue, use roomy bookmarks bar. Same thing, and it works great. Dunno about the menu, but there's other compressed menu addons available. I don't know if any work with 4 though.

The workaround for the bookmark issue looks to work for people who've tried it, so I'll give it a go if I get FF4. However the Tiny Menus thing is too important. I need an add-on that let's me remove all drop down menus except for Menu, Bookmarks and Tools (as shown in my earlier pic). If there's another one that does that, I'll get FF4 immediately.

Wow, so you managed to mess up your laptop, desktop, and work laptop? I'm not sure that's something I'd like to admit but ok. Go ahead and blame the browser for your system instability.

I've been using 4 since it was released. I haven't had a single crash and the memory usage is about the same as it was in 3.6.x.

Same here. And keep in mind i am using it with a tone of addons and plugins from the previous versions. I think for those who have frequent crashes an overview of the working system is required.

I guess it depends on what extensions you use, sites you visit and scripts/bookmarklets you run on your browser. Not a config/system issue like the troll thinks.

Example on 3.6.16 - memory usage was a consistent 250-300mb with a plug-in container of around 200mb. Now, it will fluctuate from 100mb to 500mb within seconds with a vm of 200-700mb. Plug-in container will range from 10-200mb with a vm of 500mb. Note - I also run three FF profile at the same time.

I went ahead and upgraded. Smart Bookmarks was replaced by Roomy Bookmarks as suggested, and I'm using the new Firefox button (after I moved it to a toolbar) to replace my need for Tiny Menu.

It's all working fine so far, and my speeds on webpages is MUCH MUCH faster. Some sites with a lot of background graphics used to load and scroll slowly to the point where I'd use Adblock Plus to remove them at times. It is s now all lightning quick. Great browser for that alone.

BTW, mem usage for me says about 140 mb - 300 mb is taken up depending on if I have 1 - 10 of my favorite sites open.

Firefox 4 is memory adaptive. If you have more memory, then it will use that memory. If you're on a system with few memory, it will optimize as so to use less. Kinda like Windows 7 now actually.

I installed it.
Much faster than before, no doubt.

Fast enough to make me switch from opera as my primary? Not yet. Opera is still faster and more rounded
Anyway, nice upgrade to 3.6

anyone notice in windows 7 that when you hover over a link and the url preview bar pops up at the bottom, the right and left borders of the windows kinda shift? It's kinda annoying.

Most of you that use it probably already know this, but Remove It Permanently 1.0.6.10 works with FF4 now.
