Did you know Stylish was bought out by a new company

I use StyleRRR now.
Doesn't look like that applies to the firefox version. That brings up another issue. The Chrome store doesn't gives license information unless the dev explicitly states it. All the addons in the firefox store have license information. Stylish in firefox is gpl3. In chrome, who knows?

To download the latest ESR release, do I just download v52 and it'll act like an ESR, or do I have to download an installer specially marked for ESR use?

Thanks (the file name has esr in it).

---

Didn't ESRs used to be supported for three years? I can understand why they might change the policy to one year, but it's not much of an ESR, is it?

I don't know. Three years seems exceptionally long for something like a browser and fast moving web technology. I never paid much attention to them, and tended to run nightlies. One year seems right for a web browser, but I guess some historic pages would have to be turned up to know for sure.

Just the the Firefox 52 ESR release. What specific issue do you have or dislike with Firefox ? For me, it was 1 add on that could not be used as it was never signed and never would be. But I found a way around it. And now on my XP box, FF52 ESR will be the last version that supports XP (my win 10 laptop will be able to use any new release) .. Hopefully all the sites that use Flash or Shockwave or Java will work as they should. (some finance and puzzles use Java and the sites that are using Flash should eventually go to HTML5)

You could try midori. Hard to call it a firefox replacement, but it's a nice browser I prefer for secondary use. There's also seamonkey, but it has an uncertain future due to firefox's changes.

I considered switching from Firefox to Seamonkey at one point, but I basically found that Seamonkey is FF but with rougher edges (ie. weird problems that shouldn't happen, rendering issues are the first thing that spring to mind, this was over a year ago). I've been using Seamonkey for a long time for very limited usage scenarios.

Have a look here about your issue with BF4 .. you are not the only one ... There are some workarounds
https://forums.battlefield.com/en-us/discussion/93114/plug-in
One of them is below ... worth a try

This will enable it again:

1. Open a new tab in Firefox and enter the following text in the address bar: about:config
2. Create a new boolean option and name it "plugin.load_flash_only".
3. Set the plugin.load_flash_only option to false.
4. Restart Firefox.

Compiling to assembly will help with CPU processing.

What's the point of the Zen Garden demo? It doesn't seem like it would need a significant amount of CPU power for that. Everything can run on the GPU after getting loaded through a graphics API.

I'm a firefox diehard and I currenty use Palemoon https://www.palemoon.org/ as my primary browser. It's based off an older version of firefox so there are issues with some addons, but it's maintained well and kept secure.
you could also give cyberfox a try https://cyberfox.8pecxstudios.com/ they have versions compiled for both Intel and AMD

Interesting, it now warns if you are about to enter a password on an unsecured page. Not a bad idea, if browsers start to give warnings for stuff like this it will sorta force websites to go SSL.

Removing Java plugin seems like a bold move though. As much as I hate any kind of plugin and I think they should all die, some things simply require them. But maybe this is going to push developers to seek alternatives. If something can't be done within a browser perhaps it can be done in a standalone app that you have to download.

Sooner or later all web sites (mostly game and crossword puzzles) that use Java or Flash or Shockwave will be forced to use other means, like HTML5 (not sure what they use for crosswords that do no use Java, but I know some puzzles do not need it) so clearly Java is not that necessary. But some banks use that crap.

The problem with Cyberfox is that it may well not be around in another year.
