I think you must mean version 57. 56 still supports legacy but according to Mozilla, 57 will disable all legacy extensions.
Thanks Chiefcrowe. I saw VL's post above and I was concerned. After seeing your post I updated to 56.0.2 and everything looks fine so far. I'll be avoiding 57 for the foreseeable future. It shouldn't be too much of a security problem since I use a sandbox.

So, I just installed Firefox on my 32bit Windows 10 machine... been using Pale Moon for a few years but want to install the unsupported extension Honey, so I'm going back to Firefox. It didn't say which version it was installing but the About Firefox thing said I have 56.0.2. Is 57 still in beta?

I saw no way I could import my Pale Moon settings, etc. so I imported my Edge stuff. I hardly ever use Edge, only when I'm having an issue with Pale Moon.

Almost immediately Firefox offered to send me (Web Push?) notifications. Is this a good idea?

Yes 57 is still in beta and should be released in a couple of weeks.

I'm not sure if web notifications are good or not.. depends on if you are using anything that requires them.

Also, just noticed that the HTTPS everywhere extension has been updated so that it is no longer marked as Legacy. Good news! Hopefully many others are soon as well...

By the way, I've found the Firefox Multi-Account Containers addon is very handy! I'd recommend trying it out!

CPU is idle here...

if you put 'about: performance' (without the space) in the address bar, it might give you a clue which site is caning your processor.

Side note: On this forum, how do you stop auto emoticons?

i uninstalled and reinstalled firefox which seems to have helped. i think its the ads on most pages that suck up cpu time.

it's really bad on my work pc where firefox goes into periodic not responding fits. this board in particular is so bad i've taken to using edge. really fast but it doesn't have the back button in the context menu (thanks microsoft!)

I notice that Ad Block Plus has gone to extensions. I use FF 56.0.2 and ABP was designated legacy until recently. Now if only Theme Font and Size Changer would do the same, I will allow FF to install updates.

57 is still too slow for me. I've always disliked how long it takes firefox to go "back" to previous pages, and it still completely locks up on certain sites with certain scripts causing me to need to kill it manually. Back to Chrome. I also love Edge, but the extension support is lacking, specifically for sites that insist on autoplaying videos, something the Silent Site Sound Blocker extension takes care of on chrome.

Keep at it, firefox. I want to come back, but speed and stability are paramount.
