ftp://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/firefox/n...es/build1/win32/en-US/Firefox Setup 8.0.1.exe

have not found any release notes yet as it is not officially released

There is a reason Mozilla announces the release of a product days after uploading it to their servers. And that reason is that testing is still performed and that finding a serious issue would force the company from shipping the product to end-users (these can be viewed as release candidates).

And this is exactly what happened in the case of Firefox 8.0.1. The build was available for download from Mozilla’s FTP up until today, when it was deleted because of RoboForm-related issues.

One of the problems the development team was working in order to ready a Firefox 8.1.0 update was gathering information for blocklisting RoboForm DLL. It looks like trouble ran much deeper than that and a second build is now required.

It's to fix an incompatibility with Roboform. That addon is popular enough to warrant a patch from Mozilla I guess.

I'm about to switch to something else. Each new version is worse than the last. I hate 8. It crashes constantly.

Wait, I though they go by even numbers now like v4.0, v6.0, v8.0..., so shouldn't this be a v10.0 release?

I'm not sure why people think that crashing is expected behavior. I've used Firefox since V0.7, and I'm on V11 now, and could count the crashes I've had on 1 hand. There's a reason it's crashing, and it's likely not due to core design. Find the problem, and fix it.

Do I know how can I get the Java plugin to work with FireFox 8?

I am stuck with FireFox 5 coz even the latest Java 6 update 29 and JAva 7 update 1 don't support FF higher than FireFox 5

But in FireFox 5, I am having viewing trouble viewing YouTube videos, you can never get the PLAY button on a video nor the seek bar. When I right click, and view the video in the IE Tab the video appears right so I don't know what's FireFox 5's problem

I want to upgrade to v8 but the Java plugin not being compatible is an issue coz some websites rely on it

Please help man, you seem like a FireFox pro

Firefox 8.0.1 is not on the mozilla release site as yet. I just had the program check for updates and it says it is up to date. For Java, the only thing that does not work with Firefox 8 is the Java Console, used by coders. It has no effect on Java based applications or web sites. I am on Java 6 Build 29
You can check which version of Java is installed with this link:

www.java.com/en/download/installed.jsp

You can get the full installer for Java 6, Build 29 here

This is weird, I just updated my FireFox to v8.0.1 and the YouTube problem still persists, I also disabled all my add-ons but no luck

Here is what I see when I open a youTube Video

The strange thing is, if I open a YouTube video with FireFox Portable, it works fine

I'm far from a pro :^D

I'm not finding anything mentioning an incompatibility with Java, and higher versions of Firefox. Java console doesn't work, but you don't need that unless you're developing/debugging Java.

When you go here, it doesn't show up as working?

http://java.com/en/download/testjava.jsp

Edit:
Try updating/reinstalling Flash for the YouTube issue.

Check you have the latest Flash:

http://www.adobe.com/software/flash/about/

Check you have the latest Shockwave:

www.adobe.com/shockwave/welcome

Note: Many websites, like You Tube and others, the Video will not play if you use AdBlock and it is enabled. I have that on my Firefox and for those sites and also for like CNBC, it must be disabled or the video will say "Not Available"

Nice link to test the Java installation. I added it to my list of helpful items.

I just uninstalled Ad-Block Plus and restarted FF but the video stilll shows as a blank square with no play button / seek bar

Strange, why is the FireFxo portable playing it fine then?

If the problem is only YouTube, you can try the html5 trial. Not all of their videos work that way, and there's some other drawbacks, but it's worth a shot, and anything that marginalizes Flash is a good thing imo. Enter the trial here. You need cookies enabled...

To actually fix the problem, try uninstalling Flash, and reinstalling it.
