Firefox and Adobe PDF

Ok, using Firefox 1.05 (but this happened in earlier versions as well) ...

Open a PDF from a website - any website. Then close the window that was holding the PDF view - Firefox seems to lock up for anywhere between 30-90 seconds.

Anyone else find this behavior? If so, did you find a way to make it STOP doing that!

i never had any problems with FF and Acrobat Reader... but i always found Acrobat a tad bloated even when tweaked... so i switched to a freeware alternative: Foxit PDF Reader...

its a tiny (1mb), no-installation required PDF Reader that integrates seamlessly into IE and FF (possibly others too)

can't ask for more really... its in beta stage technically but i've been using it for months and its solid and gets better with every release... because its so small and doesnt need to be installed it also makes a perfect portable PDF Reader for carrying around on a USB drive etc.


EDIT: sorry it looks like im selling this! lol.. its FREE and im so happy with it im trying to get everyone that uses bloated 10+mb Acrobat to realize this does the same and is much faster and practical.

You might want to try disabling any extensions you've installed in Firefox. If that fixes the problem, try re-enabling the extensions one-at-a-time to see if one of them is interfering with proper function. None of the 1.0x versions of Firefox I've used has had any problem handling PDFs.

I can't stand acrobat documents opening in my browser so I just turn that off. I think you can do it from Acrobat, but you can also do it from Firefox.

don't have any extensions in Firefox .. its vanilla

I had the same problem. Once I upgraded to the latest version of adobe reader (7.0 I think) ff stopped hanging.

Interesting. I've been using AR with Firefox all along. I did notice that a new Reader update (7.02) that I installed today specifically mentioned that it fixed some sort of issue when using the Reader from within a browser.
