Firefox lost all my settings

Hello all,

For some reason (Windows said it was a driver problem) my computer bluescreened today. Firefox was open while this happened. When I restarted, all my Firefox settings are gone and, most annoyingly, so are all my bookmarks. Is there any way to get these back?

Thanks,
Swan

Look in your \Documents and Settings\<Name>\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\ folders. FF may have created a new profile and left the old one intact.

Nope, only one folder in there.

You have over 7000 posts and you don't back up your stuff?
Save some agravation and time and backup your drive at least once a month, I personally do it every 2 wks, get something like Acronis trueimage 7.

While the developers are working hard, I suspect such problems will persist through 1.0.

edit: I also think backend bookmark handling is shared with Mozilla, which is currently at 1.7 or 1.8 alpha.

95% or more of those posts came from IE, and I never had a problem. As for backup, I back up my important files once a week. I used to do IE favorites at the same time, but the program I use doesn't support FF. Anyway, I just sort of expect a browser to work.

You blame a program for losing data after the OS blue screened? ANY program will lose data if the OS crashes while it's writing to a file (or has recently written to a file).

true tat...but the program could have (potentially) backed up the data, couldn't it?

stop sounding harsh...

Just to set the record straight, I didn't make this post to rant about FF. I really like the browser. I posted to get a solution, as there often are solutions to problems like these.

Anyway, we can let the discussion drift into FF bashing/praising, but don't flame me for it.
