New Year's Resolution for Firefox: Grow

I can say I'm pretty darn happy about Firefox stickin' it to the man. Back when Netscape was a contender, I always stuck with that. After a few years of IE, I was overjoyed to get Firefox (mmm... tabs).

But like the article asks, do you think this momentum will last? I sure as hell hope so.

I don't understand the hoopla. I didn't like firefox. I still use Opera, which is way more functional. Opera is used on everything from computers to phones, and will soon be the fastest browser ever. Why does firefox always get headline news?

I dunno, the article was fresh and said IE was nudged just below the 90% mark (although I didn't account for the share of other browsers).

I know some people like Opera, but I'm too lazy to check out every browser (3 I suppose).

It isn't bloated at all. I use every special feature it does daily. People who switch to firefox end up downloading plugin after plugin to make it do the same thing.

It's best if Firefox stays as enthusiast and not mainstream browser. I for one do not want Firefox to get too successful.

It's not free and it's not open source.

Nothing really. The difference between Firefox and Mozilla is mostly a matter of preference. Mozilla is a suite of software that comes with an web browser, email client, IRC client, and HTML editor. Firefox is just the browser.

Opera is completely free. You never need to pay anything, no features locked, no silly splash screens. It's completely free.

Open source is overrated.

Last time I used Opera, there was a rather large banner at the top, but that was also almost 5 years ago. I thought they still had that, but I guess I was wrong. Maybe they felt pressure from Mozilla/Firefox.

Anyways, if you go into the Mozilla/Firefox communities, you'll find tons of custom builds and user made patches for fixes/features that people want. There's also way more plug-ins for Firefox than there are for Opera, even if you exlude Firefox plug-ins that are standard features for Opera.

Firefox is a lean browser. If you want the extra features, then you download them.

Yes but you can custom install Mozilla to suit your needs, so if you don`t want IRC client ,just untick the box where it says " IRC CLient".

I too prefer Mozilla and Opera(my top 2) to Firefox and have even tried Maxthon which is probably the best browser for IE6 users since it``s based on IE6 .

The banner is still there, I prefer Firefox. Works well on Linux and OSX too

I use FF now. It works great.

BUT I don't like how if one window crash's then all the FF windows all close down

It seems logical if you assume that all of IE's problems is because it's popular and not because it's tied into the the OS very tightly and hasn't had much in the way of active development for the past 3 years or so.

The more popular the better. Even if it turns out to suck in the next few years it will open the way for alternative browsers like Opera to take it's place. Monoculture is tah suck.

I used FireFox for a bit, but I'm back on IE simply because it works with 99.99% of the sites out there. And with the added bonus of running under a Limited account ActiveX controls can't be run.

That doesn't say much about Firefox if the only reason it's more secure is because people don't think it's worth their time.

and not because it's tied into the the OS very tightly and hasn't had much in the way of active development for the past 3 years or so.

I think that's probably the case.
