I don't understand the hoopla. I didn't like firefox. I still use Opera, which is way more functional. Opera is used on everything from computers to phones, and will soon be the fastest browser ever. Why does firefox always get headline news?
It's not free and it's not open source.
Opera is completely free. You never need to pay anything, no features locked, no silly splash screens. It's completely free.
Open source is overrated.
Last time I used Opera, there was a rather large banner at the top, but that was also almost 5 years ago. I thought they still had that, but I guess I was wrong. Maybe they felt pressure from Mozilla/Firefox.
Anyways, if you go into the Mozilla/Firefox communities, you'll find tons of custom builds and user made patches for fixes/features that people want. There's also way more plug-ins for Firefox than there are for Opera, even if you exlude Firefox plug-ins that are standard features for Opera.
Firefox is a lean browser. If you want the extra features, then you download them.

It's best if Firefox stays as enthusiast and not mainstream browser. I for one do not want Firefox to get too successful.
