Has anyone else tried the beta?

Not impressed, my poor addons.

Not sure why they didn't do a emulation layer from the older API to the new one.

I signed up for the release notification but am on the fence about trying the beta. 55 works fine for me so I believe that I'm going to leave well enough alone right now.

I'm running the non developer version now and I've noticed that my lastpass manager will not work plus I can't log into their website while running this beta yet I can log into it with IE 11 just fine. Whatever changed is impacting its ability to interact with websites which is not a good thing. I might roll back to 56 to restore functionality.

This preview beta works very well and I've yet to experience any issues with it. I installed bitwarden and imported my passwords from lastpass so all is well plus I've installed it on all of my pc's and android.

It sure looks a LOT like Chromium / Chrome. WebRender won't be out until 59. It should be worth the wait.

I hope users have some visual layout options, either in Firefox itself or via an Add-On. It is one of the few things that I personally enjoy about Firefox vs Chrome.

Frankly, if it is going to be locked down like Chrome, most will just go with whichever ecosystem they have bought into.

One huge thing Firefox has it its corner, for now, is 32 bit support. This is a big deal for a lot of people.

Like many, I have more than one browser and OS. I don't want carbon copies, unless Firefox is really THAT much faster than Chrome... but I doubt it.

I like the fact that FF offers a menu system and chrome doens't plus you can configure your toolbar. I like my bookmarks to drop down and it offers a button beside the url window for quick access. This is as close as I can get to netscape navigator which was my favorite browser and I still don't know how IE replaced it.

FF is now my default browser and as long as it performs well it will stay that way. I was having too many problems with IE and it seemed that MS was deliberately forcing people to edge which I absolutely do not like.

Browser world has become bizarro. I also had increasing problems with IE and switched to firefox about 1.5 years ago. Now, for the past 3 months or so firefox is black or blank screening on me regularly
throwing a display driver not responding error and needing a complete reload. not so with IE which for some unknown reason has become reliable again.

I did a clean install back in May and IE has become increasing unreliable for me. If one tab is having issues all tabs join it and the browser becomes unresponsive. Videos on news sites were having issues, especially on CNN and YouTube videos would start acting up after a few plays.

While I was in the university I would have to swap browsers between semesters as one would behave with some labs while others wouldn't so I was always going back and forth between IE and FF. I look at edge every now and then and am amused by its draw on web pages capability which doesn't serve any practical purpose for me. I have written MS a couple of times requesting that they make it look like IE but I don't get a response from them.

I've just noticed that the rich text editor in the forum isn't working right with quantum and I can no longer access the little drop down menu to do things like strike out text.

Edit: Now all of my browsers are doing it so its not limited to quantum.

The benchmarks for Firefox 57, Edge 16 and whatever version Chrome is at now will be interesting to say the least. It looks like browser technology is really becoming more and more sophisticated from both a security and a performance standpoint. Personally I still favor Microsoft Edge, especially with the Creator's fall update, but I am definitely willing to give the new Firefox a go when it gets out of beta. It will be Firefox's webrender vs Edge's independent rendering
