Firefox uses floppy to download

Once upon a time I downloaded a file using "Save as" in firefox and saved it to a floppy. Ever since then, any time I download anything anywhere (defaults to desktop), I get disk access on my floppy (making firefox wait a long time) and firefox refuses to download without a floppy in the floppy drive. This has happened with firefox 0.8-1.0 for me. Anyone else had this problem? I never submitted a bug report to bugzilla because I didnt want to take the time to figure it out.

Yeah, thats how I set it to download to the desktop.

Uninstall and reinstall did not fix. Changing every setting a million times then setting it back how I wanted it fixed it. Oh well.

I have the EXACT same problem. I can't even use firefox now, because I'm not gonna keep a floppy in my drive all the time. If it weren't for this issue, I would switch over from mozilla in a heartbeat. Does anybody have the solution?

Thanks

In between installs of firefox you might try wiping your registry of anything firefox/mozilla related.

Have you tried deleting the Mozilla folder under Application Data in your user folder?

Check your prefs.js file and see what user_pref("browser.download.defaultFolder" is set to

A firefox developer told me clearing the history should solve it.
edit: the download history - as in, click the "clean up" button. if that doesn't work, put a floppy in and save something somewhere else. browser.download.lastDir is most likely the problem pref.

Nope, that didn't fix it for me. I went into the preferences where the default download folder was set to Desktop. I changed it to a different folder, save close firefox. Open, download something, change back to Desktop, and then it worked. I think I also fiddled with some other settings but I didn't actually leave anything different. Just some problematic ghost preference somewhere. What angers me is that I had this problem from 0.9.x on to now and it still hasn't been fixed.

Try a registry cleaner or search for references to the a: drive with regedit and clean em.

Registry First Aid is excellent, SuperRabbit seems good to. There's probably some good free ones you could investigate.

Did you try what he said? I'm guessing that making FF autosave to a location does not rewrite the browser.download.lastDir preference that he is talking about. Put a floppy in and MANUALLY select an alternate location (and for kicks, not your desktop) one or twice then put it back on default dir after a restart of the browser and see if it fixes it. It is most likely a preference problem (uninstalling does not necessarily get rid of preferences...thus the call for registry or mozilla application data wipes)

Hey thanks guys, I think deleting downloads.rdf seemed to fix it.... I think. If it starts happening again, I'm sure I'll post more.

Thanks again-
