togos pastrami reuben ftw!

well, im gonna guess you live in sacramento. hit corti bros, though i guess their deli makes more of a sandwich than a sub. defintely better than togos though.

why because they're locally owned? Does that make them magically better, I've had sub's from many "locally owned" and they were no better, they just weren't a chain. Hell the last one I went to used the same fucking rolls I can buy myself at the local super market, I watched the guy pull out the bag of rolls and I was like "wtf" I'm not a huge fan of the chains, but the local shops tend to be every bit as crappy.

How dare you! Blasphemy! Firehouse is leagues better than Quiznos! :|
I agree...but you gotta admit Firehouse is still a similar style of sub.

I'm old-school and prefer REAL bread with fresh cut deli meats. I'm not a big fan of the pre-packaged meat or the fruity chipotle-southwestern bacon dressing they put on subs at most chains these days either.

If a sub is going to be a hot sub, it better be a melt or a meatball. Subs aren't supposed to be toasted or grilled.

You'd like Comminello's up in Westminster, CO. It's a mom and pop Italian pasta and meat market/deli that makes sandwhiches during lunch time. Their capicola is to die for.

Maybe it was just the Firehouse near me when I lived in Vero Beach, FL, but they were totally mediocre.

Fair enough. The two local sub shops to me, plus the one pizza shop that I buy subs from all make their bread fresh daily (and not that shitty frozen stuff the chains use). To that add freshly chopped veggies (not out of a bag) and freshly sliced meat (not out of a vacuum sealed bag) and you have a delicious sub.

Primo in Philly/South Jersey is tops. Wawa's pretty good too.

Too bad I live in VA now. A good hoagie, cheesesteak, or whatever all starts with the bread. The best bread is found in NY, NJ, and Eastern PA.

...I knew there was a reason why I stopped craving Subway.

...And what makes me want to try more advanced sub places if I'm already sick of Subway?

I'm surprised no one has started the sub/hoagie/grinder argument yet! Very pleasing to see everyone stuck with the best one
