Here's an update from the Nashville TN store, where I stopped by right when it opened today.

All the display TVs were sold "before the sale to the public", iow they went to employees. There were the usual comments such as, "Hey, put some music on. But Chris said to be careful not to blow his speakers out." Any new-in-box TV will not be clearanced.

They had the standard display LCD blow-outs reported previously. 15" for $110 and 17" for $170 or so. Sold "as is" with no warranty and obvious signs of heavy use on most of them. Wasn't really that exciting considering what I could garner about the specs (and lack of warranty). Many demo printers on sale but I didn't care so don't have details.

Other notables:
--MP3 players were about 40% off down the line (lots of Gateway and Muvo models)
--Network Gateway DVD player was down to $89 (from $200)
--Some home entertainment stands were down from $700-$1000 (!!) to $200-300
--Iomega SuperDVD 4x external USB2 DVD burner down to $120

On an interesting note, out of boredom/curiosity, I inquired as to the sale price of Gateway's TV DVD recorder since it was strangely btwn clearance items yet had no clearance tag. I was informed by the manager that the new units would be returned for sale on the online store, and the demo was not yet for sale. I'm not sure if the same will apply to the Gateway 4 and 5 MP cameras which had their accessory kits on clearance but not the cameras themselves (although some have reported those cams on clearance too).

Anyhow, this trip definitely didn't provide the amusing circus experience of going to, say, a Service Merchandise store closing event. And I felt that a lot of the deals have been beaten by recent AT deals, although there were maybe a few exceptions. . . .

I stopped by the one just outside of Denver and they had pretty much nothing. LCD were being sold regular price, mp3 players regular price... the only thing i saw that was worth mentioning was a logitech mx500 for 20$ They did have a big table with computers and a few LCD but it had signs all over it saying "NOT FOR SALE".

Just got back from the plantation florida store. Walked in and the employess were playing x box on a plasma tv while eating pizzas. Anyway, the employees got a hold of all the tv's and lcd monitors. All digital cameras and video cameras were purchased by the same guy for e-bay sales. I got a black 17" crt for $40 and a 5 port internal usb card for $9. Oh yeah, got a full copy of novalogics blackhawk down for $6. For the most part the place has been gutted.

MANNNNNNNNN!
That's all I can say.
If someone lives out in the country, where a real Gateway "Country" store is, please tell me.
I spent an out in my local store, picking up scraps of nothing.

Check this out, he said within an hour of opening, all of the Plasma and LCD TV's were gone...

30 inch LCD TV, $900.00
42 inch Plasma TV's, $1000.00
60 inch Plasma TV, $1500.00

Only the Accessories, and Monitors that were on Display, were marked for clearance.
I bought 2 sets of speakers for $3.00, and I bought a round set of speakers for $15.00
I bought brand new in the package, PC 2100 ram (128 for $11.00, 256 megs for $23.00)

They had a 20 gb mp3 player for on display, $112.00, but it would not work...

I bought a 17 inch CRT monitor for $42.00
mp3 CD player for $20.00
USB floppy drive for $15.00

I am headed back to get some more memory...

All of the COmputers that were on display were not for sale, which is terrible (saleman muttered something about "microsoft licensing".

In VA, I bought a printer EPSON Multifunctional for 48 bucks, not a bad deal if you ask me...LCD,TV were all sold at regular price. The lady told me only accesories were on sale.

edit: Interesting thing is that the representatives seem to have a paper with all the stuff on sale . Some people got ahold of it and went straight to look for those, so if you can get that paper you pretty much know what's on sale. otherwise you can try talking to a representative ( It's impossible to get one to help you).

I was at the Southeast Denver store when it opened on Saturday. Display models of computers were not for sale and the ones in the boxes were regular price. All of the TVs were sold to employees and their families before the store opened. They had some open-box DV cameras left, but nothing was marked and it was impossible to get someone who could tell you how much they were or to help you get them disconnected from the alarm system. Eventually, I just took it to the cash register, figuring that if it was too expensive, I'd put it back. Took three and a quarter hours to get out of there--I'm guessing that it took approximately 45 minutes per person to get checked out.

Found some deals w/rebates on their site...

GW DC-T23 camera + accessory kit = $30 mir
GW DC-T50 camera + accessory kit = $50 mir
GW DC-M42 camera + accessory kit = $50 mir
GW T23, T50, or M42 cam + acc kit + Sandisk SD memory card (128, 256, or 512) = Rebate amount above plus another rebate that covers the cost of whatever memory card you buy up to $65

Belkin 6-in-1 multimedia reader = $10 mir
Konica Minolta Magicolor 2300DL, 2300W = $200 mir each
Palm Zire 71 = $50 mir

Pacific Digital DVDROM 16x = $10 mir; CDRW 52x = $20 mir
Plextor PX-504A DVD+R/+RW = $30 mir
Targus Commuter Laptop case = $20 mir
Viewsonic PJ510 Projector = $100 mir

I fairly certain all of these rebates were available for any purchases made as of right now... but don't take my word for it esp considering the stores will not accept returns. Check the rebate on Gateway.com before buying anything major based on the deals I've listed above.

I figure store closing discount + a rebate will result in some nearly-FAR or possibly even cash back kinds of deals.

Took a trip to the stores here in MD (3 of them), and the story is basically the same with a few exceptions.

The CSRs in store had started selling some of the display models, then I understand that a memo came out that said that if anyone were caught selling the displays before allowed to do so, they would forfeit whatever severance they had coming (helluva way to manage if ask me!)

As an interesting sidenote, I understand that the display models are to all be given to charities, and that they will not be sold to the public.

Like I stated before.... all the LCD's and Plasma TV's were gone long before I got there. Maybe they were sold to employees, or sold to the public... but they were gone...

West Palm Beach, FL:

Well, nothing much left. All display items sold. Laptop backpacks = $16. A USB2 Belkin PCI card with 4 external and 1 internal port was $11 (not bad). Some music players remained. Regular price cameras. Super expensive computers. Expensive $30 802.11b PCMCIA card etc.

On the PCMCIA 802.11b card, two not-so-good shoppers were contemplating buying it while talking about how good of a deal it was (I remember getting my SMC 802.11b card FAR ) Very interesting...

They fired all the retail employees, and experienced technicians, 7 days after I started my new job. I could see this was happening after the whole emachines buyout because they didn't care about the stores anymore.

I was very happy to get out of that ****hole.

I tell you what, anyone who didn't see this coming is a moron because they just weren't shipping any stock product for the last couple weeks I was there. I hope they don't get any product in the best buy stores, etc. I would love to see them go right down to the bottom.

And yes, they sold the plasmas for $900 to employees. But I wouldn't want a Sampo plasma anyway

I just went to the store in Boise, all seemed normal. They said 70% off computer and accessories, but I didn't see any major discounts. Also, all the display models of plasma and LCD's were still there. Are they just holding out? Any ideas on how I can get them to give me a discount on a display unit?

I went by the other day, and I have to say that it had to be the lamest "closing" sale i've ever seen. Can't say I was too surprised though, given that this is Gateway afterall.

you have to wait until all the new units of the item sell out before the display goes on sale. this is what they told me when i tried to buy the 5mp digicam for $122 or whatever it was.

Just the opposite where I'm at. They sold all the display items within the first few hours and all they have left is new items a full price. Employees told me that every single plasma was purchased by employees, new items would not be marked down any further and would just be shipped back, and with tears in her eyes that they found out they lost their jobs 20 mins. before the public press release.

I went on Saturday morning right after opening and nothing was marked down. Went this morning at opening and everything was gone. Sunday is a stupid day for a clearance sale.

I went Saturday afternoon. Picked 2 Laserjet printers at 1/2 off. A 1012 for $96 and a 1300 for $200. Plasmas were long gone at the Salt Lake City store. Went again yesterday afternoon because I thought I remembered the Minolta color laser was also on clearance when I was there. Unfortunately, by yesterday, the entire store was pretty much picked clean.

Seriously, no thread crapping. Kind of hard to believe you DPG when nobody else was able to get in on it.

Me being a pimp and all, this was a golden opportunity to recruit some new ho's. Went to a few Gateway stores and offered some of the hot women there some jobs...
