I was very happy to get out of that ****hole.

I tell you what, anyone who didn't see this coming is a moron because they just weren't shipping any stock product for the last couple weeks I was there. I hope they don't get any product in the best buy stores, etc. I would love to see them go right down to the bottom.

And yes, they sold the plasmas for $900 to employees. But I wouldn't want a Sampo plasma anyway

Snow Dogg, I am very sorry for you. But please buy me a plasma...

Got screwed

Went today to the local Gateway and the placed had been picked clean
I asked when it all took place and they said Saturday and I know that was a lie because I was their Saturday.
It seems the employees lied to me so they could get all the goods as only the crap was left and not even marked down.
I guess if I was getting the shaft from my employer I would give the customers the shaft also.
Good bye Gateway, a crappy ending to a crappy computer company.
The funny thing is they will rely on an even worse computer, the Emachine.

Turn out the lights, the party is over.

thanks to everybody who posted their experiences. i was thinking about going tonight, but my saturday morning excursion parallels others' stories too much, ie: most of the display plasmas had sold to guys that obviousy had only a given name @ birth, according to the "sold tos" placarded on the sets
no help from emps, while they tried to sell the new stuff full price to old codgers
display cams/vidcams either gone or overpriced
only diff so far i see is that this store had a swoll girl running hither and yon yellling "we can't sell that!" and putting stuff in the back
hmm

Me being a pimp and all, this was a golden opportunity to recruit some new ho's. Went to a few Gateway stores and offered some of the hot women there some jobs...
That is hilarious. As soon as we left the store my friend goes man that girl was about to start crying when she told us about finding out about losing her job 20 mins. before the press release and the only thing I could think/say was: I've got a job for her.

For some reason I highly doubt DPG0wnz ended up with a bunch of 42" & 60 plasma's for $10,000 when no one else here even had a shot at a single one.

FOLKS,

I went back... They still had a lot of memory here in Lexington, (strange that the PC2100 got marked wayyyyy down, but the PC133 memory was still the same, ie 512 was $200.00). Or maybe the store guy wasn't telling the truth,

I also bought Canon A40 Digital Video camera for about $200.00. It was a display unit that had been left on the floor, so it did not have all of the parts, but I made sure it ran...

Here is the clencher...
Folks I think they might start selling the new stuff at drastically reduced prices. While I was there (Lexington, Ky store, 6:45pm) the guy told me that he had just gotten a call yesterday to mark everything down by 15%.

They also started selling furniture. I want one of the DIsplay benches... It would go nicely inside of my garage....but they were not selling those yet.

Furniture was gone from my local store when I was there on Sat so don't count on it not being in vain.

I work for a Gateway store in VA. We've been almost totally wiped out. We sold almost all of the display units in about 2 hrs. The plasmas were sold before we even knew the prices, we had customers telling us they wanted them if they went on sale so we held them for those people. Most of the stores I believe chose to give the employees first crack at the TV's and given that they managers were probably the only one's in the best position to afford the things I heard most of them went to management. The only real tv worth buying IMHO was the 42HD, it went for about 1400 dollars. The other tvs were a great buy, the 50" was 2000 and the 42ED was 1100 and the 46 was 1300 or so. The 30" LCD was 900 and the other tv's were marked down heavily too. The cameras were a good buy also, as well as the diplay LCD's. That's long gone now though, We have had people coming in to buy chairs, desks, cabinets, cables, you name it, it's all gone. The display units had the most outragously low prices i'd ever seen anywhere.

The sad part though is that most of the people that came in were either trying to ravage the store for any deal they could get, or wanted to bitch because they wouldn't have a place to take the PC for service anymore. Only a handfull of customers even wished us good luck in the future. It gets more barren every day I go in and customers don't seem to give a sh1t either way. I've been there for 2 years and it's kinda degrading how the whole thing went down. Oh yeah, any items not on clearance have been marked down 15%, including systems, remaining tv's, etc. If you go to the local Gateway and score a good deal, please wish the employees the best of luck.

Hey cvstrat, just wondering, things like the cables/wires that were used to hook up the HDTV sets to the HD receivers, and the a/v duplexers/multiplexers, and all that kind of stuff... is it being sold along with the furniture? I figure there might be some deals in some of that "infrastructure" type stuff...

Good luck, wish you the best. I told this to the employees at my store and they said basically "don't feel bad for us, we got nice severance and I picked up some nice deals on things I would not have been able to afford otherwise, and I already have another job lined up".

We've sold it all almost.. There were no specific prices on cabling so I made some up

We had about 10 Monster component cables (about 70 dollars new each)
8 or so monster audio cables
4 monster optical cables
a billion composite cables
etc..

I sold all of them for about 60 dollars to one guy... We're just gotten tired of people asking the price of this and the price of that like it's a faqing meat market...

Some things just don't have SKU's and therefore don't have prices but have to be sold.

I'd say reasonably 15-20 dollars for any monster component cable they oughta sell it to you, unless all the employees got them already.

About the component signal splitters we didn't sell those yet, not sure if we can... they were a few hundred a piece I think new... not sure though.

Almost all the furniture goes.. the touchpad safe is 250 bux, most filing cabinets 20 bux, large metal storage cabinets 45 bux, pretty good stuff too.. cheap..

i worked for Gateway for 2 years and was finally able to get another job and get out of there. They closed the last store i worked in about 1 month or 2 ago and then the store i started at is now closing. I was in there Saturday morning after the store manager flipped out telling about 75+ people to get the f!@k out of his store and he would open back up at 1. They rolled out the clearance prices at 8am and the store opens at 9. So he hadnt even had time to set up the store. He also only had one or 2 sales reps with him. It is real sh!ty how gateway has done its employees. Damn powder nosed Ted Waitt. The manager at this store gave the employees the furniture and told them they had first dibs on the display stuff. He told them to get whatever they wanted and put it in the back and they could buy it on Friday. He is a pretty cool guy. And of coarse since i was in there i got a little hook up as well. I got the Targus Matrix laptop bag for $20 and a Logitech 3D extreme joystick for $10. I am going to go buy out as much of there accessories as they have left tomorrow. But good luck to all you gateway employees; you'll be in a better place soon. I feel your pain.

Yeah, I was wondering about this stuff as well, they had a ton of surge protectors/powerstrips, just lying around.

Just hit the Columbia, SC store and I got a 17" CRT for $43.00, 256mb PC2100 for $21.00, and a handful of kids games (2packs) for $6.00 each

Pretty much all the good stuff was gone/reserved/sold already.

Slim pickings.

I went to the one in Fairfax, VA on Saturday. It turned out that one of my gf's friend worked there. The place was picked clean of all digital cameras, including the display models, and most of the digital camcorders. They had a bunch of JVCs left, because it seems that those kinda suck. I was still tempted to buy one, since the prices were ridiculously low. There was one Canon ZR65 display model left, which no one bought since it didn't come with a battery. There was also a ZR60 left that was in really crappy condition. They set me up, by putting the zr60's batter onto the zr65, and throwing some "extras" in...and I got the package for $170.

....they had a bunch of accessories left, such as logitech mx500, but I didn't inquire about the prices. All the plasma TV's were bought by the employees. My gf's friend managed to get a 42" plasma for $900. I guess that kind of makes up for him getting shafted just a week before his wedding.

and to any of the gateway employees that are reading this, that are losing their jobs...good luck, and I hope you all end up with much better jobs than the previous.

I worked at a Gateway Store for about 4 years. I just left about a month ago. To all of the employees here: good luck in the future. The company's product wasn't always top notch (especially recently), but some of the people they had working there cared more for the customers than any other store I have been to.
