Well,
They may have 40 billion in assets which I douht and they may be selling Emachines at walmart but anyone who buys an Emachine is buying because of the price and not the computer. I used to work at BestBuy and we had folks come in and buy the ad Emachine which was like $299 after rebates and they had no clue what they were getting or cared. These same folks are the ones who called every damn day asking questions and asking why is doesn't work and why does it take so long to get fixed. Packerd Bell was the largest PC manufacture at one time but their terrible quality drove them to their doom. I don't think the gateway legacy is on any more solid ground then they were before and they will now compete more directly with dell and we all know Dell will stomp them. It's not like I really care if they make it because I'm a Mac guy and hate PC's but I was perfectly willing to go to Gateway and pick up any deal I could find.

Welllllll, I basically convinced my older brother that it would not be worth his $2000.00 to buy any Non-HDTV plasma screen, because plasma screens burn out a lot quicker (I can not remember whether or not it was 5-10 years) and the colors are not as good, and that there are cheaper newer technologies getting ready to hit the market in a few months (see: intel EOD LCD).
But here in Kentucky, our tax is only 6%
Plus the company I work for gets an additional 5% through gateway.
So I could get a 42 inch Plasma Screen for about 20% off....
20% off of $2399.99 before taxes is $1919.99 +$115.19 in taxes, comes out to about $2035.18
20% off of the taxed $2399.99 which at 6% is $2543.98 is still $2035.18
To the average consumer.... that is a pretty good price...
But the average consumer does not know that they only have a resolution over about 852x600... which is only SVGA....
BTW the 42 inch Plasma Displays are $2399.99 here...

My buddy and I hit the one here in Wappingers Falls after work. Very picked over. They did have a pair of 17 inch crt's going for 43 bucks each though. We grabbed those since a new monitor can always be used somewhere. I gave mine to my brother to replace his old Sony 15inch Trinitron, that he bought almost 8 years ago.
