I feel bad for the gateway employees, and hope God blesses them in the endeavors.
I know it is not as bad as it seems... I went back to the store (it is only 10 minutes away from my office) and walked in.
All items (including the $2399.99, 42-inch plasma TV's) were now 15% off.

I just happened to see 3 or 4 employees in the classroom playing Quake3....looks like they were having fun, which I do not begrudge them in the least bit.

yeah, because I work for a company, I get 10% off gateway products, so I though I would be able to get 25% But the lady looked up my discount and told me that it only applies to gateway computers...

I am hoping that they just break down and decide to sell all of the stuff at cutthroat prices....

Nabbed a Gateway Connected DVD player for sub $60. Retail $149. It's the model that didn't come with a network card (wired or wireless). Still not a bad deal.

Just got back from my 3 area Gateway stores (Roseville, Citrus Heights and Sacramento) and they were pretty picked over.
I picked up the Muvo 128mb for $50.00 and an HP Deskjet 5850 wireless printer for $80. The printer was the best deal that I found.
Like others have said, all plasmas and LCD's were gone, mainly to management as I was told.
Good luck to those that lost their jobs.

Edit: Forgot to mention, the Citrus Heights store had a Canon Powershot S45 display missing battery and CF for $175ish. Good deal if you buy the accessories off ebay or already have them. Just a thought.
This store had the prices listed for everything, if they had any S50's, they were $190ish!!! Early bird gets the worm.

My buddy and I hit the one here in Wappingers Falls after work. Very picked over. They did have a pair of 17 inch crt's going for 43 bucks each though. We grabbed those since a new monitor can always be used somewhere. I gave mine to my brother to replace his old Sony 15inch Trinitron, that he bought almost 8 years ago.

It seems the employees lied to me so they could get all the goods as only the crap was left and not even marked down.
I guess if I was getting the shaft from my employer I would give the customers the shaft also.
Good bye Gateway, a crappy ending to a crappy computer company.
The funny thing is they will rely on an even worse computer, the Emachine.

Turn out the lights, the party is over.

Do you actually think that Gateway is going anywhere? The Gateway purchase of eMachines makes Gateway the 3rd largest computer manufacturer in the world behind Dell and HP and last I heard Gateway had something in the area of $40 billion in cash assets onhand. The Gateway stores on the other hand were a money pit. Think about it. All those stores with all the overhead involved in a retail operation made them simply unprofitable. Gateway mainly purchased eMachines for their retail distribution which includes Walmart. There were 188 Gateway stores. There are over 3,250 Walmarts. It sure sounds like a smart move to me.

Stopped by the store in Buffalo, NY. All they had was 2 17" Viewsonic CRTs, a bunch of keyboards and mice, some assorted software, and a few MP3 players. Store was pretty bare otherwise.

Dmage, they would not sell me the keyboards, nor would they sell me the Surge protectors...
I really do feel like they are holding them back for someone else...

can someone explain to me why you would pay around $2800 (after 15% off and including 6% NJ tax) for a 42 inch plasma that is only EDTV or $2300 for a 30 inch LCD that does 15:9?

Welllllll, I basically convinced my older brother that it would not be worth his $2000.00 to buy any Non-HDTV plasma screen, because plasma screens burn out a lot quicker (I can not remember whether or not it was 5-10 years) and the colors are not as good, and that there are cheaper newer technologies getting ready to hit the market in a few months (see: intel EOD LCD).

But here in Kentucky, our tax is only 6%
Plus the company I work for gets an additional 5% through gateway.
So I could get a 42 inch Plasma Screen for about 20% off....

20% off of $2399.99 before taxes is $1919.99 +$115.19 in taxes, comes out to about $2035.18

20% off of the taxed $2399.99 which at 6% is $2543.98 is still $2035.18

To the average consumer.... that is a pretty good price...

But the average consumer does not know that they only have a resolution over about 852x600... which is only SVGA....

BTW the 42 inch Plasma Displays are $2399.99 here...

The plasma prices have dropped again, maybe it would be worth it now.
