the $15 card looks similar to the inlacd firewire card I got at microcenter on sale for $12.99 from originally $29.99 no rebate. also came with ulead VS 4 SE

One of these cards has the NEC chipset, the other the Lucent chipset. Neither chipset is recommended by those who do a lot of video editing... look for a card with the TI chipset, you'll be happier.

I'm in for the Lucent 15 dollar card....

The TI chipset would have been nice. But for 15 bucks I think it's worth a try.............

Also it beats the card I don't have now..........LOL

Newegg has the TI based chipset for $18.00 + shipping.

I have also heard that the TI chipset is the only way to go. I use TI based myself

Mine came today. NEC chipset.
Has 6' cable and Ulead VideoStudio 5.0
I ordered 1/31/02, so it took a while to get here with the free shipping, but it got here.

Man I ordered it Sunday and checked my order status on their sight tonight... It still said processing...... I decided it just cant take 4 days to process the order so I called them... They said i had given them the wrongc credit card numbers and that they had emailed me and told me........... Hell if they did. Anyways I decided to place the order anyways......... Hows the card working foe you guys? I wanted TI chipset........ But i guess i'll risk it...........

Fired up the card and it is working fine. System recognized the card and then recognized the cam when I plugged it in.
The Ulead 5.0 installed fine also and I am just learning the features.
Transfered about 45 minutes of DV from my Sharp cam to the computer with no difficulty.
Using winXP on an ECS K7S5A w/XP1600 and a 7200 40G drive.

Not trying to crap, but be cautions if you plan on using these with an iPod. I had 2 ActionTec Lucent-based firewire cards from like a year or two ago. Tried both cards in 3 machines, windows would see the iPod, but you could not access it (drive I/O error message) a couple of weeks ago I bought the Adaptec card that was $20 at compusa, plugged it in, and the iPod has worked fine since. BTW the Adaptec card was a TI chipset.
Normally I consider Lucent a pretty good company, but I dunno who to blame here, Apple or Lucent, but I'm not the only one that had problems from what I've read.
