Namely, that NVIDIA PureVideo is superior to ATI's Catalyst 5.8, that PureVideo is superior to basic DVD players, and that PureVideo minimizes some of the common artifacts seen with de-interlacing.

I have to say that i've noticed PureVideo a lot since sticking my 7800GT's in. Even AT showed it was superior to the technology in AVIVO.

As for the handbags being thrown by both Rollo & Creig.... Rollo chose to bold a firm statement, Creig a shakey questioning statement (which AT proved false).

PureVideo is a leap in the right direction, AVIVO simpy a step. Both improve on what was available before just some have had time to be refined.

Rollo posted a paragraph from the article plus linked to the article for all to see the entire article. You are mocking it. A mod will see right through this. We all need to tread a little more carefully these days in video, you and I included.

You don't find it amusing that two fanboys (one from each party) can quote the same paragraph and cherry pick (bold) certain lines for their argument. That's gold!

I don't see anything bolded in Rollo's first post, and it hasn't been edited. What are you talking about? The only thing bolded is the link to the article. I see bolding iin his second post in which he bolded some words in the quote of Creigs initial taunt post.

Here is the breakdown. Rollo posted article. Creig no likey. Creig sets bait. Creig plays innocent. Very Simple.
No, Rollo cherry picked, Creig rebutted it with another picked out of the same section, Rollo cherry picked the rebuttal, and Creig showed that the same paragraph meant something different with different emphasis. Then you jumped on Creig.

The problem is Creig rebutted with what might happen when the reviewer clearly states he's never seen those drivers! LOL

Creig is just so used to promises and no product from ATI that he posts their promises as things that have actually happened!

Sorry to go back on topic, but does anyone have an answer for this?

Your Pure Video is rev2, as good as it gets!

Once again Rollo revises quotes to match what he wants to see. Please point out where I said something has "actually happened" that hasn't.

The state of PC video quality is also going to change. ATI's Catalyst 5.9 drivers feature a brand-new de-interlacing technology which may address some of the limitations of older ATI products. ATI's AVIVO supports noise reduction with 3rd party TV tuners but it's not yet clear if ATI will be able to implement noise reduction for DVD sources, or better yet HDTV sources. I have not yet had the opportunity to test Catalyst 5.9 myself, so I can't make any comment on how it compares to PureVideo but it warrants a closer look.

Yea, not to mention were on Catalyst 5.10.

FYI the Catalyst 5.10 don't support the X1000 series (AVIVO platform). PureVideo on 7800 series wins again

Did He edit it out, From where his quote started did he skip over part and continue later like nothing was missing. He found in the CONCLUSION of the article where they stated which playback they prefered. He didn't cut any thing out he just started with and ended with the part of the conclusion where they cover which of the ones they tested, they thought was better.

For some reason you think that Rollo should have included the part where the SPECULATE on future changes. Thats not what a quote is. A quote is just a part of what somebody says not all of it. Thats what the link is for, so unless you can't read (sorry if you can't) you should easily be able to cover all of the information including the part where they SPECULATE on the future.

You did imply that Picture quality on DVD and MPEG2 Play back was judged but not benchmarked in part of the discusion on what ATI intended to do. He may have stretched it, but you have attempted to blast him for being BIASED by stating Firingsquads determination (of tested types) between ATI and NVIDIA. If anyone is BIASED it is Firingsquad because it is what they said not him.

I thought Anandtech did a review of AVIVO vs. Purevideo a while back and ATI did poorly there as well. Seems they have a ways to go to catch up to NVIDIA in the video department.

http://www.nvidia.com/page/purevideo_support.html

Your 6600GT supports accelerated WMV9 decode. It's the 6800/LE/GT/Ultra AGP and PCI-E 6800GT/Ultra that don't.

Rock on! But, if the 6800s are broken why are they in that table? Also, what software do I need to take advantage of PureVideo.

Sorry for my ignorance, my computer died a few weeks ago and I replaced a GF2MX with this PCI-E 6600GT - so PureVideo is new to me.

They only things that are broken on the 6800's are 2 or 3 WM9 hardware video stuff, DVD/MPEG2 playback works just fine.
(I don't even own a WM9 video )

In order to what you need to get Purevideo working, this link made it work for me:

But ...but.... Terra....hasn't anyone told you that that only feature that matters on any gaming card ever made is the WMV9 stuff? Whether you own a WMV9 video or not, you might as well throw away your video card if it can't accelerate WMV9.

Lets finish this right now.

Nvidia has the upper hand in everything related with hardware video acceleration, perhaps, for the mere fact, that they have had it out for a year, and have been able to work and tweak it to their liking. I wouldn't count ATI out yet. While the results were pretty dissapointing, they still have plenty of drivers to go through.
