The only major surprise here is the power usage.

They are really hammering down on the bios, to prevent excessive power draw.

Basically this is the Nano variant of CF and that kind of performance with that power usage, is insane perf/w.

Regardless of everything else, truly awesome performance in a single card package! If you have the cash, this builds the ultimate HTPC.

I don't know how this thing is going to sell besides people needing a one slot or mITX build...

With Polaris coming soon at mainstream affordable prices, grab 2x Polaris 10 and you have this thing beat at a fraction of the $.

It makes more sense as a Firepro, 16Tflops FP32 performance is extremely good in a single slot.

It's quite good considering you've got two Fijis power capped, total system power of +10w over the 980Ti setup, and 60% better performance. Both can be overclocked, though.

If you've got workloads that make use of xfire or both GPUs at once and have to make the most out of a single PCIe slot, it's an interesting proposal. Nothing that you couldn't get with two Nanos and power capping/undervolting them.

It is showing that the throttled Fijis are dominating in 4K.
If one has the correct cooling, and there is a way to not throttle these things, and you don't care about power draw... this could be one of the best mining cards ever released.

It's better than CF Nano, due to the air cooler on that thing, in CF will throttle clocks even more.

This seems to hold a ~1ghz clock speed at that power profile, is very impressive for that reason, but the price makes it DOA unfortunately it's simply too late with next-gen coming in 1-2 months.

Yeah you'd never actually buy one of these but as a tech piece it's quite something.

But the 980ti will overclock 30% negating most of that advantage..

30% overclock is 69% more power consumed, you can get lower than this but at the expense of stability.

And btw, what happened to perf/Watt, it does not count anymore.?..

Not to mention heat. The 980Ti is pushing 80C in these tests. OC that? Bleh.

Wait a minute. I thought the Pro Duo was a pair of dual Fiji chips on one board. A dual GPU card in other words.

How would it actually perform against two Fury X's or two 980 Ti's? Especially against two overclocked 980 Ti's? I'm far more curious about that.

That said, the low power consumption is pretty amazing.

If this had been out 6 months ago, maybe, but as close as we are to seeing Polaris and Pascal launch, I can't imagine anyone, even someone with money to burn, buying this.

Yeah, this likely is TDP capped like Nano. Move the slider to +50% and gain ~15% performance.

I'm most curious to see what other niggling thing they find to crap on this card about. Noisy pump, coil whine, _____? What will it be this time, I wonder?

ding..ding..ding..ding! We have a winner! Heat and noise won't matter either.

They are comparing it to the fastest cards currently available.

If all of a sudden you are expecting the dual GPU beast to be better value than the 2x single cards are, you are in the wrong era. There's a premium for the top single card. It's been like that for a while now.

The temperature you see only matters in relation to the temperature that chip remains at during load. It does not equate at all to the temperature released. Think about physics and entropy. *All* energy eventually becomes heat and whether you use water cooling or air cooling an equilibrium of temperature will begin to occur in the surroundings.

Therefor the most relevant number to heat release is power usage.

A good cooler may move the heat off of the chip and into water that is then cooled off with air. However, please notice the last piece in the puzzle.

Well, Nerp pointed the temp albeit it can be compensated with a custom cooling, but that wont solve the TDP issue..

If this had been out 6 months ago, maybe, but as close as we are to seeing Polaris and Pascal launch, I can't imagine anyone, even someone with money to burn, buying this.

I could imagine that someone who need 16+ Tflops of single precision capability would be interested.

Seems to me, if i can borrow 3DVagabond s term, that computing was also a winning point not so long ago, it s crazy how things can change in so few time...

For mining I get it, but for gaming it still requires CF support to take advantage of both GPUs, correct?
