In regards to the posters above talking about multiple-in-one devices, that is the nature of innovation.
That's the whole idea of "technological convergence", which is to say take all of the tech gadgets today and combine them into one uber-device. We have some amazing tech out there that when combined can produce amazing results.
For example if you're at your doctor's office and there is the equivalent of a google glass that can take one look at a wound and bring up a list of what it could be, you would be able to dramatically bring down treatment time, especially when a device like this was available to the public. Say for example someone has a compound fracture and you don't know what to do - a device like this would be instantly bringing up a video of what to do.
The tech is there, it's the application of the tech that's lacking right now, and patents holding back the true end goal which is the technological singularity.
