My current plan is to see how two 5830s stand against 5770s, and the OCing on each. Then, depending on what costs more, I'll finally have to choose a replacement for this 4870.

Should give me 5870 power for 210$.

I'm not sure what happens with different cards, but with my 2x 4830s one is factory clocked higher than the other and that's how it is in my Crossfire setup.

Thats not correct.
A 5770 with a 5750 runs faster then 2 5750's. It's about on par with a 5870 most of the time.

So the disappointment of 5830 is confirmed. Anand's review showed that it's consistently slower than the 4890. At this one can only hope that the launch of Fermi in March can drive the 5850 and 5870's prices down.
5830 is real weird. It's the same speed as a 5770 in Far Cry 2 yet it can beat the 4890 in Vantage. http://www.anandtech.com/video/showdoc.aspx?i=3750&p=5
I think there are some bugs to be worked out possibly in specific games or there's a driver bug holding it back in general. This thing should always be faster than the 5770 at the very least.
