I'll admit that after a couple of terms substitute teaching, I developed a rather low opinion of teenagers. Especially those late middle school through high school.
I'm an old geezer at 69 and built my first computer at about age 59. You are a very pleasant surprise and reflect that your parents are doing a great job allowing and showing you how to become all you can become. Now I'm curious to know how many other young men and women use this forum and build their own computers.
How many of you are out there between the ages of 12 and 18? Remember, Anand was a teenager when he started this web page.

When I was 13, I was playing Doom on a 486SX, and I thought it was pretty swanky. Kids these days have it easy - remember installing soundcards with jumpers for IRQs and trying to get them to work under DOS? Having about 20 different boot floppies for all your games so enough low memory would be free? CD-ROM drives with a custom interface that plugged into the soundcard? What a load.
Anyway, congrats on your rig. Really nice-looking, tidy build. Enjoy it!

I'm 13. I built my rig a couple of months ago and it's still running smoothly. It was the easiest thing in the world. I don't find it a surprising feat for teenagers to accomplish. I tried to curve my system around my budget which I only had 1 year to save up so it's specs aren't too great. Of course, I'll be upgrading the system pretty soon with a 7800 GT and a new PSU. If I were you, though, I would have gotten a bigger hard drive. All those games sure take up alot of space. Congrats on your first rig!

Oh, so you bought all the parts separately? That explains how you were able to purchase such expensive equipment.

Hey guys, first off, I want to thank all of you for the tremendous amount help you have given me for the past year. Also, thanks to mechBgon, as your guide really helped too!
Anyways, I proceded with caution as I slowly began building. After about 6 hours of tedious work, I hooked up the monitor, and waited for the moment of glory - pressing the power switch. So I did, and boom! it POSTS! I was a happy camper...
Here's the specs -
ASUS A8N-SLI Premium
AMD Athlon 64 3700+ San Diego
XP-90 with Panaflo L1A
2GB (2x1GB) OCZ EL Platinum CAS 2-3-2-5
eVGA 7800GTX KO Edition (coming soon - temporary replaced by X300SE)
WD 74GB Raptor
LiteOn DVD/DCRW Combo
Antec TP II 2.0 550w sleeved with UV Blue Sleeving
Thermaltake Tsunami
Logisys UV Cathode
I guess it's not bad for a 13 year old.
