So I want to get into photography as a hobby and am not really sure of what camera to get. I have never used any kind of camera outside of a point and shoot. I want to keep it fairly inexpensive and I found this
http://www.adorama.com/IOMEPL114BLR.html

Would this be a good camera? Is there anything else in the same price range that would be better?

It'll work just fine. I'm not entirely sold on m4/3, but for $300 you can't really argue - the E-PL1 is phenomenal value right now.

yep, it's ~equivalent to full frame 28-300 or digital APS-C 18-200

you might eventually want to go longer if you like birding and stuff or wider if you like indoors/architecture, or get a pancake prime (for even more portability <3)

but for most people the dual lens kit range is great for travel

note: the olympus (and any other) m4/3 mount lenses are rather expensive in comparison to their "normal" APS-C mount counterparts

If I were you, I'd get something with a viewfinder, either EVF or optical. Taking photos on a screen sucks IMO.

Also, the Micro 4/3 lenses are expensive and your options are very limited. Unless you need the smaller size, why not get a normal SLR (or Sony SLT)?

Then again that Olympus is very cheap with the 2 lenses. You'd have to spend at least twice as much for an SLR with similar ones.

I ended up buying the e-pl1, I figured it would be the best value for the money. The lenses should have me covered for awhile and if I want to get more serious in photography, I can always get a dslr and sell this one or use it as a secondary camera or something.

Thank you for your advice everyone, buying a camera is a pretty daunting task. There is so much to choose from.

I think it has something to do with the Anandtech servers.

Must be. Using FF, the first link doesn't connect at all. The second link hangs for several seconds "waiting on redirect.anandtech.com", then connects.

I can't get it. Try again fails every time. What does work is pasting the link into the FF URL box. It's weirdness! WTH does www.dpbolvw.net have to do with it?

Hmm, some Googling brought me to this interesting post:

No need in saying its not a virus/spyware/maleware as it is. This happens to me every... Few years or so and no matter what I do, reinstalling the OS is the only option to get rid of it.

Once I've reinstalled I go to the HDD that had all my backups saved and instantly AVG or Avsat will detect a virus/trojan even though they couldn't before. The virus has obviously worked into your anti-virus. So get a seperate HDD, back everything up, reinstall your OS, and before you try to connect your backed up data back to your main rig, make sure you have spybot, malewarebytes, Avsat or AVG installed and fully updated before doing so. Then disconnect of the internet, and start running the HDD for scans one by one on all the programs listed above, and I assure you, you will find hundreds of infections.

Hope this helps.

It's on this page:

Indeed, this XP install is very long in the tooth and I'm due for a reinstall. I dual boot the machine, it's possible that booting to the other XP partition will allow me to scan and clean this install, but I may not bother before installing fresh.

The long tele-zoom lens will be a lead weight in your bag because you will not use it much, unless you are into birding (if that is the case, then you will be looking for longer telephoto lenses).

That said, it is a great deal for a starter. And, a shoes mount flash will be a usefull tool for indoor and fill-flash.

Yeah, I am going plane spotting for the first time this next weekend and I figured the 40-150 would be better than the kit lens for it. I didn't want to put a ton on money into it because I am not sure if I will get super into it or not. Besides, I more options never hurt anyone
