You're kidding, right? Comparing a overpriced cute-ute to a real offroader?

Get your facts right before making statements that make you look silly!

You might want to check YOUR facts there Mister Know it All. The Defender (which are used in safaris in Africa) would likely own the Wrangler:

I think you're getting the Defender mixed up with the Freelander:

Oops - my bad - yes I was thinking of the Freelander.

Agreed, the Defender is a completely different animal.

"not bad for a 5,300-pounder "

:Q, that is a heavy VW. I don't think my Ram weighs that much.

There is on eproblem. It's a VW, so the electrical system is going to go in a day, especially with all these toys

If you check out the Passats, you will find that most electrical problems have been taken care of. I suspect the Touareg has more in common with one of those than a Mexican Beetle.

Was at my dealer today, and they had 10 or so. They had some V8's there, and they all looked sweet. Problem is that it has no advantage over my Passat for me. I can carry about as much in my Variant (wagon to you), and I don't tow anything or go off road. Now if the v10 diesel was availible, and a third bench option too, then I would reconsider.

The Land Rover Range Rover is a better truck, especially off-road. Anyone read the off-road comparo between the Tourag and the Range Rover in CAR magazine?

I posted about it b4, but it didn't get much views. A suscriber can search for it if they want. The only thing they liked about the Touragg was its V10 turbodiesel.

The Range Rover is the worst vehicle on the face of the earth.

Those things break so much the mechanics at the dealership don't want to fix them anymore.

I know this from experience.

hehe...I'm talking about the brand new spanking Range Rover. Not the older ones. But yes, the older ones were not really reliable, they were about as reliable as older Jags. But Ford fixed all that.

I heard this once on another forum, where they were arguing if Ford killed Jag's hertiage. Once guy said this: "Jaguar lost its heritage by producing reliable cars".

You forgot to mention that the Land Rover doesn't even come close to T-Reg's on road capabilities. As a sum total of all capabilities T-Reg's way better.

Actually the T-Reg beat the 4Runner's upscale cousin aka Lexus GX easily. Check the last couple of issues of C&D.

While the Tuorag was better off on the road, it wasn't THAT much more better. the Landrover was overall a better SUV.

I drove one the other day...unfortunately it was a V8 so me and dad couldn't fairly compare it with our Acura's V6. Need to go back and test drive a V6 when they have a demo available...

Well, the T-Reg beat the BMW X5 (the current best on-road handling SUV, excluding Porsche). While the LandRover might be comfy, it's no twisty road burner or sporty. The T-Reg is quite sporty comparatively. Also consider the fact that T-Reg is like almost half of LandRover's cost, it's no brainer. Secondly VW will release an even more extreme off-road version of the T-Reg and a W12 420+ hp version next year.

I would certainly prefer the T-Reg.
