Lost Planet DX10 demo will be released tomorrow, being the first DX10 game demo fro public consumption.

http://blogs.nvidia.com/developers/2007/05/today_we_nvidia.html

I would really like to see some DX10 benchmarks comparing the 8800 and 2900xt, so post some here if you find some tomorrow.

Ofcourse there is already Nvidia's DX10 tech demo Cascades that has been around and is pretty cool. I wonder if the 2900xt can run it and have fraps report the outcome(likely it will need to detect an nvidia card but I haven't heard.)

Most likely it will run better on the 2900. It is a 360 port; we will probably see comparable frame rates like Vegas. It was already optimized for an ATI chip.

I?m skeptical about it truly being dx10 though, they might have added a few things here and there but overall it?s not doing anything that special over dx 9 yea it will run on dx10 but is it really using dx10's features?

It's not a native DX10 game, since it wasn't DX10 on the 360. This invalidates any claim of a performance edge for a certain GPU, regardless of which way it swings.

Well yeah, only games starting development today have even the slightest possibility of being native DX10 and fully leveraging the API. It will be nice for once to know DX10 Vista wasn't all smoke and mirrors though.
It will be our first DX9/DX10 comparison (their will be demos for both), so that is cool, even though it won't be anything spectacular.

That is not necessarily true. the rendering engine wasn't completely rewritten, just patched up. No doubt conspiracy theories will fly though.

actually no... ATI GPU on 360 is a different in alot ways of R600. Also Nvidia is spending alot of time with Capcom to tweak the game to run bbetter on 8800GTX. So i am damn sure its going to run faster 8800GTX.

if it was patched up, and not rewritten, then it is not natively DX10. Thus, doesn't likely hold the benefits of DX10 except for the fancy effects that can be done, for what one might be considered 'free', but doesn't gain the overall performance edge DX10 has over DX9, nor will it likely prove a good representation of which GPU will better handle DX10.

and tuteja is right.. I believe Lost Planet is a game that is under the 'The Way It's Meant To Be Played' label.

We won't be seeing real DX10 games, really leveraging DX10, for a couple years. It will all be just minimal additions on top of the DX9 game until DX10 becomes the requirement and the engine is built to take full advantage of it from the ground up. That's pretty common sense. I'm not waiting 2 years to judge current and near future DX10 implementations.

On the contrary, it's a TWIMTBP demo.
