I`m back with more juicy details

Lets go down the memory lane for a little bit before posting the screenshot.

November 2012.
GTX 780 rumor details arrived. Chip.de brought us news on the successor of GTX 680. GK114 chip, 2304 Cuda cores. Same high 1GHz clocks you see on all Geforce cards.

Early March 2013.
GTX Titan Lite or GTX 780 rumored details arrived again. GK110 instead of GK114. Not 2688 Cuda Cores like GTX Titan, but 2496 Cuda Cores. Nvidia disable 1SMX, 2688-192 = 2496 Cuda Cores.
Reason? Nvidia have lots of damaged GK110 chips that was intended for Tesla cards but was damaged so it had to be used on something else. 2688 core chips is exclusive for GTX Titan, the further damaged ones = GTX 780/Titan Lite.

That was a few weeks ago. Now with the newest leak from Chiphell, it seems like Nvidia will be doing it a little different that previously thought.

GTX 780 won`t be 14 SMX (14x192 = 2688) like Titan. It won`t be 13 SMX like previously thought either (13x192 = 2496). It will consist of 12 SMX, 12x192 = 2304 Cuda Cores.

I personally think Nvidia have a huge stockpile of these GK110 chips laying around from Tesla productions, which is too damaged to be even used on GTX Titan. So Nvidia use these chips to build a plastic GPU with normal fan (like GTX 670/680) instead of Aluminum with vapour chamber like GTX Titan, which will drag the price down from $999. Plus its weaker than GTX Titan, which will drag the price down further. So in my opinion, this will be GTX 780.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

So without anything more to add to the discussion, here is the GPU-Z of the upcoming GTX 780 (Or GTX Titan Lite).

Enjoy :awe:

I doubt this is going to be the 7xx series from Nvidia. That's still a ways off. This seems to be the rumored cut down version of Titan that will be released in a few months.

I don't understand the Titan Lite cause more or less if you're willing to spend $899 on a card that probably means that you would dish out $1000 IDK maybe its just me.

I don`t think it will be GTX Titan Lite. It will most likely be GTX 780, with a retail price of $599-$699.

Even if it did turn out to be GTX Titan Lite, I`d imagine that using plastic instead of aluminum casing, using normal cooling instead of vapour chamber, having 14% less cores, 1GB less memory, Nvidia get to use their damaged chips that couldn`t even make it to GTX Titan, would result in a lot less cost than GTX Titan.

So basically a GTX 470 will be their next flagship processor, glad I went with a 7950.

Do not want Nvidia, stop being stupid please, thanks.

At least it's not GK114, but still it's a total joke we have a super cut flagship card.

With 20% higher clock speeds, wouldn't it be kind of funny if it ended up about as fast or even faster than a Titan in some cases?

Yeah it makes little sense from that price point. If I was willing to spend $900 on a GPU, what is an extra $100 to get more cores and more vram?

Sigh. I edited the price. The price you saw on that picture was nothing but speculations. And the speculation was wrong, since its not 2496 cores like they thought but 2304 cores.
$599-$699 for this GPU in my opinion. Just wait and see

Who knows, maybe Nvidia might unlock voltage with GTX 780 instead of locking it like they did with GTX Titan. Atleast let the OEMs create custom PCB with better VRMs

Pretty much every mid to high end card uses a vapour chamber; titan, 7970, 680, 7950.. not sure on the reference 670 as that card is pretty low budget.

A few bucks worth of plexiglass/metal will not bring the price down all that much. I think AdamK47 has the right of it and this card was already rumoured to drop. Probably a Titan-lite branded as such for a few hundred more than a GTX 680 costs. Your post is a little muddied though and you don't make it clear if you're talking about a speculative GK114 based card for 780 and then a Titan-lite card, or if you think a further cut down GK110 is going to be 780. So maybe that is what you are guessing after all ?

Titan is massively marked up and could probably get sold for quite a bit less as it is, so no reason to expect a lite-Titan to go for $599, with those specs it wouldn't be that much slower than a Titan is.

Maybe $799 for the cut down Titan card ? Sounds about right with nvidia's current backside violation Titan pricing.

Still, why spend *only* $800 for a crappy card when you can get decent one for $1k?

Seriously. The epeen need is great!

If it has decent compute, the needy researchers on a budget aren't going to spend the extra for a Titan... which makes you wonder if moving the cards will compensate for lost margins that could have been captured.

I don't see what place this card has in nvidia's lineup. It would seem to either (further) dilute the Titan (priced to low) or doomed to sit on shelves because the next SKU up is so shiny (priced to high).

OEM only is likely, IMHO. Maybe some boutique shops too.

Oh I wasn`t aware that GTX 680 had vapour chamber.

I meant GTX 780 possibly being the GK110 instead of GK114 because Nvidia have a lot of these chips laying around not being used from Tesla production. I have no idea though, pretty much guessing yes like everyone else

If this is the GTX Titan Lite, I`m sure they can sell it at $799. But if this goes as GTX 780, it will be cheaper. I know AMD is about to drop HD 7990 at rumored price $799. No way Nvidia could sell a GPU thats a lot weaker for same price right? Wouldn`t $599-$699 be better?

Could you imagine two of these on the same PCB as GTX 790?

Really not sure how they are going to slot a card between Titan and the 680 successfully. Price the 780/Titan Lite too close to Titan, and customers will most likely just buy a Titan instead . . . but if they price it closer to the 680, then Titan will seem rather pointless.

I doubt they have a "lot" of them sitting around. They seem pretty supply constrained, hence the high price.

Well - might as well hope for a 550 USD cutdown titan or gk114 on steroids.

Would make me spend money again - short of 9xxx\8xxx next gen AMD cards arriving with maxwell.

With that much vram - it'd be abit more futureproof then 2 GB as well.
Kind what irked me about 680\670 - not really vram future proof ... enough.

Probably decent SP, but no 1/3 DP.

Also all this really does I think is free up GK104 @ 770 and below with better perf/w ratios to deal with AMD's refresh (whenever that happens).

It will be a lot less if it's a lot slower. If it's not much slower, say like typical 680 to 670 or 7970 to 7950, it'll likely be ~20% cheaper. If it's any more than that it'll hurt sales of the top model too much. Nobody's going to care if it's got 5gig of ram instead of 6gig.

What is this going to offer over a GTX680? 20% more performance? Not worth the GTX780 moniker if this is legit.

id be interested to see how much theyre going to cost once released. could it possibly bring the cost of other cards down? (wishful thinking)
