Update 2***
Tweaktown added a GTX 670 overclocked review.
http://www.tweaktown.com/articles/4...rd_overclocked_performance_preview/index.html

Edit***
OC.net users got a couple GTX 670's already.

Apparently some oc.net members got their hands on some gtx 670's.

Tweaktown review

Companies actually dislike NVIDIA so much that they're willing to walk down stairs, or maybe upstairs, to their R and D department and sign out a video card to send to us. They ask just one thing from us. Never tell anyone where it came from. That's fine with us and that's the reason we won't be including any pictures.
lol
My personal issues with NVIDIA and the issues that TweakTown on a whole have pushed right aside, the GEFORCE GTX 670 is just an awesome video card that is going to be a serious headache for AMD. The performance of the video card is really quite crazy and the fact that this is the second option for NVIDIA when it comes to single GPU video cards is bad for AMD when it has no issue competing with their strongest option; the HD 7970.

As Tweaktown is being hammered, here are some images that DonKarnage has collected from the review.

Christ, would it have killed him to spend ten minutes in photoshop cropping the card out of that picture properly? lol

Thanks for the link, reading it as we speak.

Kinda impressive/odd that it manages to usually be only 5~10% slower than the GTX680 with nearly 10% lower clock and over 10% lower core count (giving it ~80% of the processing power).
Maybe it has really aggressive turbo?
Or the GTX600 series is massively memory limited.

Well, it's Tweaktown. So, the review gets a meh! Plus I feel like I'm being conned with the anti nVidia rant (Not particularly professional, IMO.) followed by the glowing review.

The card seems like a great performer though comparing it with the 680. I didn't notice, was there anywhere in the review they mentioned sufficient supply or not? I might have missed it, but I don't think so. For me, this info is pretty critical considering the state of the 680/690 stocks.

it was dead even with the gtx680 when AA was used in AvP. I bet it will be even in some other games too such as Metro 2033 and Crysis if AA is used.

Same as before. Same people that buy 580 instead of 570. Same that buy 570 instead of 560ti and so on.

Also tweaktown aint exactly..quality stuff. So wait with final verdict till later.

You've got to be shitting me.

I just cancelled my 7850.

a 400 USD board that beats a 7970?!

Nvidia Troll Face on!!

I hope the EU market tax doesn't butcher the end price cause this is mah card, i can see that.

Hope others get the same result as TT, would be epic fun if 670 @ 400 usd takes on 7970 at 480 USD?

Maybe us consumers will finally see some good prices now that nvidia has the trollface on.

Wow!!

If this is true... the AMD 7970 is in trouble and may have to drop their price again... and Nvidia may have made a critical business error by not having enough GTX 680 in stock - people may get the GTX 670 instead...

heck... now I have an extra $100 for other stuff like a monitor or another SSD...

My honest opinion,

1. It is within 2-5% of a 680 making the 680 pointless. There is no point spending more than $30-50 additional for a 680 unless there is a huge difference in OC.

2. The 7950 doesn't even come close to this. This ties with a stock 7970 but will probably loose when you do 25x16 Ultra Max 8x MSAA etc, but prolly by just 5-10% or so.

3. Once overclocked both, 7970 does trade blows with 680 but that is about it. At stock it isn't even a bit better than 670, if at all, it might be a bit worse for many games.

4. If this thing is going to be $400(difficult to believe), then 7970 needs to be sub $450ish. 7950 needs to be $350 (only because of it OC room that too, otherwise it would have been $300ish). 7870 needs to be $275ish. 7850 needs to be $225ish.

5. If this is a highly oced custom chip, then the reference 670 will be a good 10%+ slower making the 680 stock about 15%+ faster than 670 stock which is what everybody though, like 570 and 580 or 470 and 480.

CONCLUSION
If this is stock and genuinely $400, get it for all rez like 1080p 4x AA or below or 1440p no AA, until you get short of VRAM. Assuming the 7970 is priced at $450+ and assuming this thing oced is as fast as 680 oced which is unlikely. However, given the same price, I would pick a 7970 otherwise it makes no sense.

However, given this is a reference highly oced chip, this will probably be priced close to $450 which is nearly 7970 territory and due to 7970's massive OC room, at the same price it makes more sense.

At the same price as a 7950 OC, get the 670, no brainer. again assuming that this is stock and not oc

Alright prices back to where they should be instead of AMD ass raping thier customers.

7970 $350
7950 $279
7870 $219
7850 $179

Sound familiar like 6xxx series?

Competition is good.

Theory:

A Reason for shortage of 680 being that, GK104 was originally designed for around 700 MHZ for stock.

Seeing the abysmal 7970 performance & price - nvidia trolls on, scrambles to find all the chips it can bin to 1 GHZ to "comfortably" beat 7970.

Sadly, very few chips make the binning.

However....tons and tons of chips can make the secondary binnings for 670/660ti.

Nvidia releases uber performance @ cheap and kills AMD's already flailing market.

Troll on?

Nope, I would any day take a 7970 over it at $400. Once both are overclocked the 7970 >= 680 at 1440p with MSAA. This thing will be a good 10% slower at those settings.

If this thing is 400 bucks, then the 7970 should be 400 bucks too.

And 7950 should be $300.

This is a good thoery. Also explains the relative lockdown on OCing.

What do you mean by relative lockdown? What is that? Do you mean limited potential?
Without knowing anything...

The lockdown of "traditional" voltage oc'ing.

As the chips are already binned very very high, their threshold limits are just around the corner - thus locking without sick Kingpin style custom mods ensures a RMA free hell for NVidia & it's partners.
