when I look at the performance of the gpus over the last 5-10 years. the last 3 years has been absolute crap.

a 980 ti beating 1070 is not a good sign, it just means the newest gen are turds

To be fair it doesn't unless overclocked and again those cards new are around $500-$550 while the 1070 is going for $380 for non fe cards.

We need to wait a year or so and see how the 1,000 series is at ocing and running with updated drivers and better aftermarket versions before comparing it with something like heavy oc 980 ti's that have been around for the same time.

When that rolls around then yes if they are still around the same it will be a issue.

but 980 ti was sold for the OC ability.

without oc, it is barely any better than fury x in dx11, would get eaten alive in dx12.

Where are the single power connector 1070s from the AIBs?? Both the Asus and MSI 1070 have a 8+6 connector.

I'd like to get one of these for my mini-ITX build but my 450w PSU only has a single PCI-E connector.

Ok, ran a ~20mins test just using Warhammer with everything maxed.

Ambient temperature in the room is 28.4C. ITX case is SG08B, the case fan was stopped. Case temperature after ~20mins was 47.6C measured with an IR over the power connector. Case on the graphics side is placed 3.5cm from the wall. Wall temperature was 36.9C after ~20mins (Reinforced concrete wall). Front of the case got 5.5cm to the wall. Case is in a corner, blowing air behind my monitor. SSD in the bottom of the case below the motherboard reads 50C. My else cool running CPU reached 72C (Almost Prime95 temperature).

So pretty much worst case scenario possible. Yet still maintained 1734Mhz boost.
Since it's pretty much "a one of the worst case scenarios" with a mini-ITX and case fan disable this doesn't seem bad at all considering you said you were getting 1800+ with normal conditions(case fan ON?).
Also from various 1080 owners thread it seems these cards do around OC around an average of ~2050MHz around in number of games and somewhat higher or lower depending on game.
Let's see what newer drivers and custom cards have in store
