btw looking at Nvidia's website the 5500FX has Shader Model 3.0 capability, it is a G7.x series chip, not an G8.x series chip.

The Quadro 5600FX is shader model 4 capable. They should have tested it against that imo.

would that just be the only difference between them? like the 320 gts and 640 gts?

I was hoping/expecting the same bench results but with a GTX compared instead of the GTS. The card does look good especially how well it did with the COD2 and Oblivion benchmarks, as those are arguably the 2 most taxing games out now(Stalker benches soon?).

But just trading blows in the other games.....And with the performance delta between the GTX and GTS????

Bring on the XTX!!!

P.S. - It's really, really good to see some numbers, know the cards are at least competitive or more so, and the top 2 models might be out in a week or 2.

according to Kristopher Kubicki they've got an XTX being benchmarked and an article will come up later this week.

Unless something changed -- Sven got an XTX about 2 hours after Anh got the XT. Sven is benchmarking now and we should have that up this week.

Exactly what most of us thought from the preliminary specs.. X2900XT will be on par with GTX on average, and XTX will be the king of the hill, making its value greater at high resolutions with as much AA as possible with its enormous memory bandwidth.. No surprise at all for me.. Availability of the XTX is an issue of course..But this remains to be seen. Finally prices will go down as well, which is what many ppl are waiting patiently..Now let's see the X2900X2.. That's what I'm waiting

Yeah but it really doesn't matter in the grand scheme of things seeing a gamer card kill a workstation card owns more than you might know for us CAD and DCC guys. See my link at guru3d about it where i posted a link to 4600 vs 5500 benchmark which is a 8800GTS core vs a nv7x Core

Looks like the XT will perform on par with the GTX, trading blows almost all across the board methinks. Its sad how they compared a 8800GTS which although has an MSRP of $499, its street price is MUCH lower than that. Around ~$399 area give or take ~$50 dollars. The funny this is that the 640mb looks like its being phased out for something else. (8800GT?)

what info is there that suggests an 8800GT?

i have heard of the rumoured 8800GS, but that is supposed to fill the gap between the two GTS cards.

an 8800GT with 128 SP's at 500MHz and 384bit memory at 1600MHz would totally rock!

Only if it has 512MB or more of memory. Less than 512MB would be insufficient to compete with the XT's 512MB. As we know the 320MB GTS is outperformed by the 640MB model rather well when resolution and AA is increased.

Most likely my GPU upgrade money will go toward whatever card offers the best performance in a quiet and cool package at around $350, so long as it has at least 512MB of GDDR on it.

accepted, i was presuming 768MB of memory.

i still want to know what substance this 8800GT rumour has................?

Has anyone noticed that the 640MB GTS models are getting pretty scarce? Newegg only carries 7 of them now and they have been dropping by a model or two every few days.

This is one of the reasons why i think nVIDIA is going to do something very soon about their high end lineup thats been around like forever now.

I would have thought that if anything they would have dropped the 320MB GTS as it's spot in the lineup could potentially be replaced by less-expensive-to-produce lower-end parts. If they drop the 640MB GTS they would have to replace it with somethign as it leaves too big of a hole between the GTX and the lower parts.

I'll believe a 1gb XTX when I see it, and PLUS< it will not be an MSRP of an 8800GTX

Think about it, you didn't think Nvidia saw ATI with the spanking new 512mb RADEON X1800? Didn't it barely TIE the 256mb 7800 GTX?
What do you think the XTX is going to do for ATI when 1gb is pratically useless? We can't even use 512 let alone 768 or gb.

You're swaying like a typical consumer who thinks higher ram = better FPS, it actually doesn't brother, sorry.

DT has never been reliable, I swear they were the ones that said the x1800 outright spanked the 256mb 7800 GTX when Anand showed a TIE!

ATI feeds trolls like DT to make susceptible people infected, whom in turn infect others. DT is as worthy/trusty a news source as Star Magazine.

AT= Wall street Journal, = New york times, DT= Star Magazine.

I'm done with trolls who believe the XTX is the answer to the GTX, clockspeed and MHz will win the race, and that's why they didn't even pit a XTX against a GTX because it would still , at this point, LOSE.

Think people, think.

512MB cards are already becoming insufficient for those with high-resolution displays on many games. This is likely to get worse with DirectX 10 games.
