I will actually be shocked if any of the people who get in on the first shipment will be anywhere near critical since the majority probably have Apple products all over the house. Oh, and an Apple sticker on the car.

car stickers are so 1990's

It's amazing. Except, all the iPhone/iPod Touch applications I put on it kind of suck, and are buggy. They look terrible with the pixel doubling.

I wanted to put photos on it to use as my backgrounds, but there's no direct photo management like on the iPhone, I had to sync them through iTunes. iTunes "optimized" my photos for the iPad and now they look terrible. To top that off, when I go into one to use it as my background, it darkens the entire photo. So much for putting a pretty picture for a background, it makes the prettiest of pictures look like shit and robs the color before letting you do that.

The screen starts to sound "hollow" if you tap in the center, it goes away as you near the edges, so it's obviously actually hollow.

Can't charge on my PC through a USB port, have to use the included AC adapter.

My hopes for high quality streaming video are so/so. Netflix looks good but ABC looks terrible. I wonder why? (There's a big "BUY THIS EPISODE ON ITUNES" button on the page of every episode.)

Ten finger multitouch! The Pianist Pro app is pretty sweet.

That is weird. I changed the background on the demo units using some of the stock photos and they all looked the same when used as a background. I wonder what is going on there.

And yea, the piano app was pretty neat....too bad I don't know how to play anything on it lol.

Wake me up when they add a webcam to this thing.

The iPad screams video chat/conference, but lacks the hardware to do so.

And the lack of a USB port means no using my USB 4G Clearwire modem with it.

It actually looks more like it darkens bright colors. I'm assuming to keep them from obscuring view of app icons, but it would be nice to have that as an option instead of forced.

I can't wait to slip into bed and watch a movie on Netflix tonight. No more sitting in my computer chair!

I just got done listening to the 85 minute Engadget podcast and Josh T (lead editor) was ranting pretty hard about the iPad. I'm pretty sure he doesn't think it's all that magical and revolutionary. You can just tell he was saddened by the lack of Flash among other things.

I almost went and bought one just to blow cash but I'm really glad I didn't. Maybe when the iPad Gen 2 comes out in a few months with iPhone OS 4.0... maybe.

Me too, I don't think he was bummed though.. did you see him on Jimmy Fallon last night? I think he was just doing his job and highlighting areas of improvement. He wrote their review, and it was very positive. I'm eager to see what he has to say about the joojoo

So what's the verdict on the iPad? Is it a netbook replacement like many claimed early on in this thread only to be proved wrong or is it purely for consuming content by entertainment companies? I love Apple's 'keep it simple' philosophy but not including something as basic as a SD port for photos (I heard this thing can be used as a photo frame) is stupid. Can it at least connect to your other computers via the network?

I read it and I don't think I would say it was 'very' positive. In fact I feel he did a pretty good job highlighting its positive and negative points. And I'm not entirely convinced he's overly impressed by it, but does see how the concept is good. I agree with him, the concept is good, the execution basically sucks for anyone wanting to do more than surf the web whilst watching tv. Even that kind of sucks with no flash ability to see many webpages, sigh...no ultra-portable porn device yet. :\

My two cents agree with Josh's. The concept is amazing, but slightly flawed in execution. I can understand (but do not like) the lack of multitasking in the iPhone/IPod products, but to carry over this line of thinking is a huge flaw. I would love to rock with Pandora while surfing the web. A lot of folks love listening to music while surfing, or enjoying a book.
This really makes it a 3rd device. I guess they assume every ipad user has an iphone or ipod. Which is a fair assumption. But they could have taken it to the next level. Would prefer to leave the phone in the pocket or holster.
On a personal level, I'm more in the market for MacBook Tablet with a decent resolution, decent pressure sensitivity, and a stylus.
I know Apple doesn't like the stylus confused with their Touch products, but this would be a different market.
There is a poop ton of creative folks that would love a MacBook Tablet. I would definitely pay a premium for it.

I was thinking about this while reading the engadget review. If it had perhaps a tweaked OSX operating system with adaptations for touch input, then this ipad might actually be a far more interesting product. At least it would be a lot more along the lines of a 'computer' rather than an entertainment device.

I suspect tablets will evolve into laptop replacements eventually, however, its going to take a while.

Go play with a Windows 7 tablet and tell me it doesnt suck balls...

Im actually pretty forgiving, but I couldn't stand using a Dell XT, I just defaulted to using it as a notebook all the time, when I realized it was being used as a notebook 99% of the time, I sold it on eBay...

Then it could be a giant flop like every Tablet PC from the last 10 years. At least making it a CE device gives it a fighting chance.

It IS a tweaked version of OS X. Designed entirely for touch. There is a reason digging through the start menu on previous tablets sucked.

I think Demo was hoping for something like how Windows 7 supports multi-touch, but makes no concessions past that. What a lot of people don't get when looking at something like the iPad is that a mouse or stylus can hit a 1 pixel target, the human finger cannot, and so a traditional desktop OS interface is never going to work on something like this.

Exactly, so why do they keep wanting it? Embrace the future!!!

yes, I realize that. What I meant was for a bit more OSX to shine through, rather than all I(whatever) OS.
