DaddyG:

Do you think the Enermax 450W will be able to handle the 46amps required for the 1.5ghz Palamino?

I could order an ASUS or ABIT KT133A mobo and it would arrive on Friday if I wanted to. Overclockers UK have them in stock already

I'm going to wait for a few reviews though.

Question: do you need special processor versions (somewhere I read C versions?) to use KT133 vs KT133A?

why are people waiting for other manufacturers to make kt133A boards?...the epox board is out NOW, it offers multiplier, voltage, fsb manipulation, one version has raid, they're the smartest to get their product out first....

and finally, it's not like u hve to wait to see whether the board is gonan have chipset problems, etc., - it's virtually exactly the same as the "tried and true" kt133 based boards (ep-8kta2)...

i don't see any reason to wait for the MSI solution other than supposed better stability of the board (which i question in the first place)...

They, like myself, are concerned of their future upgrade options. With the Palomino being the next mainstream AMD CPU and not being much different than current Tbirds, we may want to upgrade to a 1.7GHz or higher Palomino. The longevity of the KT133A motherboard and even our collections of SDRAM are at stake here, as a future motherboard upgrade may mean switch to DDR.

I actually ordered an Epox from bunta they was said to be in-stock, an asian dood called me this afternoon and said they sold out too quick and couldn't fullfill my order till Jan. 21. I said, "nice server, it told me the board was in-stock." The guy apologized, and i said i'll wait. I didn't cancel my order, but i will if the board isn't going to be compatible with Palominos.

yes yes, the claim on tom's hardware...i understand that....i suppose it's warranted, however, u can upgrade to 1.5ghz, while u're complaining on the possible lack of support for a slightly higher clocked palamino...say 1.7ghz...200mhz is really nothing noticeable...especially in 3d becnhmarks (unless nvidia/ATI releases a video card that's powerful enough to make the cpu a bottleneck - dobut it)...

anyway, i understand the claim...i still wouldn't wait however - especially when people are getting t-birds up to speeds beyond 1.9ghz (probably not stable, but u get the point - it would be w/ higher clocked t-birds...i.e. 1.5ghz)...

moreover, by the time palamino's come out, i'd assume that most people considering one would want to couple it w/ a ddr mobo...truthfully..

I'd like to keep my options open, since i really don't know how well DDR is going to do. Considering the current, price, availability, and performance of PC133 CAS2 SDRAM and PC2100 DDR, the idea of a good performing motherboard lasting long enough for a significant CPU upgrade looks very appealing. Take for example owners of good BX based motherboards who are running PIIIs between 700-1000MHz. Some have been using the same motherboard for quite a while.

Pricewatch has added a few more vendors with the new Epox board...including Mwave. Beware though, they have a picture of the 8KTA+ for the 8KTA3 board. Also, BZboyz has it, but for the picture of the 8KTA3, they have a picture of the 8KTA3+. The plus version has the two extra RAID/ATA100 channels. I must say it looks like a nice layout...check it out here. I like the layout and the 4 dimm slots. The ATX power connector is in a interesting place too...

I ordered the 8KTA3 from MWave yesterday and then e-mailed to see if they were in stock. CLaudia, a customer rep, wrote back and said they were not in stock and I could cancel my order. I replied that I would not cancel my order yet but I inquired as to when they would arrive and be shipped.

This morning I received confirmation that the board did, in fact, ship yesterday.

Bizzare how customer service reps can be so out of touch with their own companies.

UPS says expected arrival on the 16th, but tracking looks like it may be here Monday ~

Still no confirmation from Epox regarding voltage compliance for Palmino and Morgan.

3Dman,

I can't comment on the Power Supply issue at this time. 46 amps is a hell of alot of juice to pull from the +3.3 volt line, if infact the design is such that the cpu voltage is all regulated from the +3.3. Its possible that the +5v line is also used to drive the regulators which would help. 46 amps at an assumed 1.8v is over 80watts which will also require some major cooling.

I have had some E-Mail conversations with Kyle over at [H]ardocp on this issue and I am not convinced that the current requirements will only effect KT133A mobos. If AMD released the info late in the cycle, it should effect all mobos, 760's, Ali-magiks etc. Kyle thinks that maybe there's some other issues but only knows that ABIT has stated that their 3 phase power solution is good for 46amps.
