Also, I hope this is not indicative of general DX10 performance in all games. Hopefully the driver situation will be remedied in time for Crysis, because it's looking like I may need to go SLI (in addition to a K10 quad-core as soon as they're available). Sigh. This hobby does get rather expensive.

That's ODD, on my FX60 (not overclocked), 8800GTS

1920x1200 (video settings defaulted - AA disabled), i'm getting 30 fps on the demo..

Dropping the resolution down to 720p (1280x720p with AA disabled) - on the Performance Test, i'm getting 67 on the snow, and 36 on the cave.

Vista X64 / 158.18 drivers.

41fps average on a 7600GT on dx9 version in Vista 32. Not bad indeed. 3.2ghz core 2 duo helped im sure It only really dropped down in parking garage where fire starting showing for a split second, but was not less than 30.

You can download the xinput1_3.dll file from there, just copy to system directory. Works now

GUYS, I've said 3 times now. You need to install latest DX9 on Vista. That is the problem. Copying dll's is not the way to do it. The people getting this error are running older dx9 in Vista.

You are wrong. DX9 stuff IS IN VISTA already. The files missing are part of earlier Dx versions needed. If that was the case copy 1 file would not of solved anything.

You really are a head case aren't you. Know what you are talking about before you tell somebody they are wrong. I'm a programmer so if I tell you the game was compiled with the latest Dx9 SDK runtimes would you believe that or know what it really means???

Probably not.

To the rest of the intelligent people... If your getting errors looking for dx files, dlls including the x3input file, install the latest directx9 (the x3input.dll error will come up running Vista DX10 demo, without an updated dx9). DX10 demo needs certain recent dx9 runtimes.

Considering DX10 looks so similar to DX9, I was hoping it would give you guys a nice, healthy performance boost...

I'm wondering when will everybody be sick of all these lame upgrade cycles when each of these only results in diminishing returns in graphical improvement for games (Art & gameplay improvement? Don't even mention it). DX10 ironically may be the key to end all this BS since it requires Vista.

Sorry bro. You cant play DX10 games with any DX9 cards. Youll need an 8xxx series Nvidia for 2000 series ATI card for the DX10 version.

This is false. You can play DX10 games, with a DX9 card. Just without the DX10 effects.

Demo working fine for me. Vista Ultimate x32, and X1900XT here. Ill try my WinXp x64 tomorrow, see how it works, and the performance difference. Dual boot, so comparisons are easy.

What I was trying to say is that you cannot play a DX10 game on a DX9 card. Youre just adding the fact that if the DX10 game has a DX9 version then of course it can be played on a DX9 card. DX10 only software doesnt work on DX9 hardware though.

Every single game DX10 game, will be able to be played with a DX9 card. Your statement of "You cant play DX10 games with any DX9 cards." is wrong, just admit it and move on.

Haha. Before you insult other people, at least try to have 3rd grade grammar.

Wow, I would like to run this at a resolution higher than 1360(or whatever)x760. This is lame.

I wasn't insulting. I was trying to help people, while someone was standing in the way.
Glad to see your appreciation.

Yeah, ok. Calling them a head case, and then talking down to someone because you're a programmer (as if that is something big) is not insulting? Ok... denial...

I just tried both the DirectX9 and the DirectX10 versions, and the first thing I noticed was:
Absolutely no difference in image quality!!!

Anyway,

My setup is:
E6300
MSI 8800GTS320 OC
2Gb DDR2

Gamesettings:
1280x720
4xAA
16xAF
HDR - Medium

Results:
DirectX10 - Snow: 47fps
DirectX10 - Cave: 23fps

DirectX9 - Snow: 52fps
DirectX9 - Cave: 34fps

Cheers

Stock settings, other than 4xAA, 16xAF. Drivers set to max quality, and HQ AF.
Opty 165@2.44gig, 2gig ram, X1900XT stock clocks.

Snow 37
Cave 34

DX9 obviously. Thats under Vista, sometime today Ill try it on XP after a reboot.

The other settings were default

I also tried it with all the settings set to max, and there was a noticable difference in the graphics quality between the DX10- and the DX9-version, DX10 looked a lot better!
But came at a price. Framerates were:
Snow - 9
Cave - 12
