Well we could use your help in SoB. We are about to pass FreeDC in little more than a week at this pace. You would sure make a difference and help us into getting the #3 spot a day earlier.

The link to their home page.

and

the link to their download page.

and

the link to the SoB Team Anandtech stats page

and

the link to the teams stats on the Free-DC statistics site.

Hopefully that's enough info for ya.

I'm looking forward to your prolonged participation in TA, ofcourse SoB especially, but in any other project in general.

hehe, here is a link to wikipedia that explains it on hopefully an easier way.

It is a project that is trying to discover mathematical numbers, that have a special form or can only be formed by using a special formula. The numbers searched for by SoB are so called Sierpinski numbers (special prime numbers).

Normally prime numbers are very good for encryption methods.

To fully understand these kind of projects you have to be a mathematician, which I'm not BTW.

In case you're still looking for a project to power, or ever share resources with, our Enigma@Home team could use some help. The project is centered around breaking 3 coded messages dating back to the days of WWII.

And since I notice your sig includes a quote from Winston Churchill, perhaps you'd like to consider participating in a project related to that same portion of history.

Not so much trying to steal as giving options just in case he was looking for a medical project similar to UD.

Whatever project you choose, RadiclDreamer, Welcome to the TeAm

I sure used to like that old UD client. Did you crunch UD for TeAm Anandtech? If so, you'll find a lot of old TeAmmates still around doing various projects!

Yeah actually I was looking for something similar to UD, didnt realise people used their cycles for things other than medical research and searching for ET.

Im running folding rught now but it doesnt seem that its dual core enabled which is not ideal. I used to run UD under Team Windrivers and was decently ranked, somthing like 5th on my team and we were ranked around 60th in the world

If you're running the opteron 24/7, you should install the SMP client from Folding@Home. It awards more points but has very short deadlines.
If you're not running the opteron 24/7, you should install 2 console clients. (regular client)

I know, Gleem. It was just a joke. Hence the smileys.

And, if your looking for a good project, that has only a very short runtime (two-three months) and where TA has the top daily output overall with a chance of becoming the #1 before the project ends, I would recommend Enigma indeed.

It is a fun project and has a lot of history value to it.

Like Philippart says there is a F@H client, called SMP, that will use up to four cores to crunch one WU really fast getting lots of science done in a short period.

It is still in open beta. Most here with multicore rigs run it though. It does require, on some rigs, that it be checked daily. Hopefully some of the things that cause it to quit crunching are getting fixed for the next or final build. Seems like the main problem is if the network connection changes the client quits crunching, but stays open!

Some, including me, didn't want to have to add a logon password, which the MS file that syncs the cores needs to run.

You'll find a great bunch of crunchers here

F@H TeAm # = 198

Any decision already on what kind of project you're going to run? Just curious (and with me a lot of other TA-members.)

The password issue, the fact that you have to disable UAC in Vista and the performance make me run it in vmware.
