That extra memory bandwidth really helps like I suspected it would. According to vr-zone the card is faster than a 7950 GX2 in games which is great news.

Even better news is that the cooler is silent. Awesome.

It should also be noted that it appears vr-zone used High Quality in nVidia's drivers which means the results are much more realistic.

::throws hands up::

I'll wait for anand to settle it

I will wait for Xbit (17+ games ftw).

Still looks like a nice card, to bad ATI does not have a step up program like eVGA.

Yep that's something a lot of review sites leave out. Doesn't matter how many games a site tests if they're all using standard settings because the results are only 50% complete.

QFT.

Heard the fan can go up to 4800rpm. I think thats the absolute limit on the fan speed, although shamino said it pretty much becomes the "dust buster".

The new cooler looks very cool. Now i wonder how GDDR4 will help performance. Probably in bandwidth hungry situations and also at higher res. I wouldnt be surprised i X1950XTX crossfire was similiar the performance of a 7950GX2 SLi (Quad SLi) at 2560x1600 resolution if not faster.

Yeah but the standard fan speed is 1000 rpm and even when he cranked it to 3000 rpm he said it was silent.

I don't think there's any real reason to crank the fan to 4800 rpm unless you're planning on doing some serious overclocking and/or you have poor case cooling.

Remember the days when people like rollo bought a 7800GTX 512MB for $800 and its not even been a year since then ... we are already have a $400 card that can beat it in SLI

Wow, I see a lot of people not really thinking critically here.

X1900XTX -> X1950XTX is simply not a huge improvement in performance.

I have both an X1900XT (OC'ed to XTX) and a 7950GX2 and let me tell you, the 7950GX2's performance destroys the X1900XT(X). There is simply no way a minor memory improvement is going to allow ATI to beat the performance of the 7950GX2/7900 GT SLI so easily. These benchmarks are bullshit.

no . .. Rollo did't buy his video cards . . . he "earned" them from AEG/nVidia by posting FUD here.
:Q

thought i'd remind everyone
[that's why he was still recommending his overpriced and unavailable GPU up to the week before the xtx came out]

ANYway, that is "progress" . .. G80/r600 will probaby do the 'same thing' to the x1900xtx.

These benches do look strange, but all the numbers look off not just the 7950GX2. Plus I don't know what you consider a minor memory improvement to be but 250mhz is quite alot of improvement for me. If the x1900xt(x) was bandwidth starved it would increase performance quite alot.

Do you run your 7950 on quality or high quality? Do you notice any difference in IQ or speed between the two? I was just wondering because I notice a little bit of difference in IQ on my 7800gt but a big difference in speed.

Vr-zone is a pretty good site, and Shamino is a very knowledgable guy. I am pretty sure they know what they are doing(and I don't think they are leaning red on this one vr-zone has always liked their NV cards). I wouldn't be calling these benches bullshit unless I had a way to prove otherwise.

Here are your drugs

Lets see what Fear at 1920x1400 4xaa does with a pair of 7800gtx 512?

36fps not bad

Now lets see what Fear does with the same settings with one x1900xtx?

38fps ummm lets see that one beats the 7800gtx 512 in SLI!!!!!

And that isn't even the x1950xtx :Q

The 7900GT=7800GTX (slightly OCed)
The 7950GX2 has 2 7900GT GPUs in it
The x1950xtx can beat a 7950GX2
SO, x1950xtx>7800GTX SLI

Capiche?

read the review

then we will see who is on drugs
:Q

the x1950xtx is clearly faster than the 7950GX2 [in the review] which is faster still than sli'd 7800gtxes

Too bad they went with the goofy red cooler instead of the cooler looking silver one... Results are decent, and pretty much what I expected. If this card goes for $450, then it might be a winner.

Card is 399$

AND the hardwarezone results tell us one thing - CONROE FTW! Just look at the abysmal performance difference seen when using a x6800 and the very small gain when using an FX-55?

Dont bring that Intel fanboy crap here.. this is a discussion about GPUs..
He just states the fact, doesn't he?

I bought AMD CPU last time when I upgraded, but I just ordered a Conroe. I am not a fan of ANY BRAND! To me, good things always win!

the did use high quality settings.

"I ran all 3d cards at best image quality settings on the driver level, since those buying these cards care a lot about eye candy."

Yup, I'm not surprised. I've been saying for awhile that an overclocked x1900xtx might be very close to a 7950GX2 once the quality settings were equalized. We now have a couple reviews showing how good the XTX does against the se cards once quality settings are the same. Damn I'm glad I went with the XTX. Nvidia's gotta fix this crap

17+ games with nvidia's crappier driver settings giving inaccurate results FTL.

BTW guys, VR-Zone benchmarks with High Quality, no optimizations. This accounts for the huge drop in NVIDIA scores.
