First time PCV valve change

Does that look like it's all the way in? It fits somewhat snug, I can pull it out with minimal effort. Or is it suppose to be super tight fit and hard to pull out?

It's a 2001 GMC Savana 1500 SLT V8 5.7L

It's a little too loose for my liking, so I ordered a new grommet. I've read some online forums regarding loose fittings and some suggested new grommet or electrical tape to make it more snug.

What part are you referring to... The grommet or the valve itself.

Well, I guess it doesn't matter, since changing the oil has no effect on either part.

You can usually clean them instead of replacing. Remove and spray out with some carb cleaner and shake. As long as you hear the rattle you should be fine.

You can clean it but you won't know if the internal mechanism is working "up to specifications", even if it 'rattles'....

... for most cars it's a $5-8 part that lasts for 100k miles so just changing it is most cost effective....

Get OEM since PCV valves are calibrated, and too little suction will lead to sludge, while too much suction will cause oil burning.

Yea, I did that replacement, MOFO part as the grommet really dries out and becomes a pIta to take out. I got the valve OE, as it was a critical part that I really wasnt interested in replacing every 5k
