It catches up to a Phenom in some apps. Yay?
The CPU part was as hopeless as expected. No wonder AMD didnt want to talk about that.
it was compared against processors that had 1.5-2.0 more cores or cost 1.5-2.0 times as much
It struggles to match llano despite having much higher clocks. Amd had better IPC in 2008.

To me it actually looks quite good, relative to any Vishera 8-module system. If you think of every module as a core like item (i.e it's a 2 module system), this would bring a 4 module system up to 2500k levels. (maybe even 2600k for some benches)
That's just a symptom of the problem. The A8-5800K is the very best that AMD is offering with an integrated GPU, and it gets its butt handed to it by the i5-2500K. The 2500K was the second best CPU Intel offered with an integrated GPU...over a year and a half ago. The price is low because it can't hope to compete with higher priced Intel CPUs, and AMD knows it.

It is a "quad core". That is what AMD wants it to be called. Well then let it compete with the big boys. In cpu performance it was decimated by any i5 or i7. To be fair though,(a concept that is in short supply lately on these forums), they should have included an i3.
Looks very good. Strong CPU with the worlds fastest gGPU by far! With the class leading compute power of these chips they are the ideal choice for new builds. Good job AMD!
I hadn't had a good laugh in a while...thanks!

I don't get why people keep trying to compare the individual cores per module to Phenom II cores either. At the same clocks, the individual cores are what, 2/3 that of a Phenom II core?
Because they take up roughly the same area?
