Hi Folks,
Six years ago I built an i5-2500 system with ASUS P8Z68-V LX Mobo, and it has suited me very well. A while back it started to throw errors on one of the SATA ports so I swapped for an open one, which itself is now starting to throw errors. I've decided it is time to upgrade again. I use the system for editing GOPRO videos, general Office '08 type stuff, Photoshop/Illustrator, some minor gaming (WoW, old-school UO and Shroud) and GoogleEarth. My current system does all this OK, often a little slow and a little hot though.
Aside from wanting to convert my 2gig main drive to an SSID (M.2?) for system and a 4gig for data, I just want faster and newer. I plan to keep my my OS - I have a full retail Win7 Ultimate (free from launch event) which I like as much as I dislike Win10, and want to keep. Though I am not firm on this, I'd also like to stick with Intel and ASUS, they have both worked well and lasted longer than expected.
Here is what I came up with (~$1,000 budget):
https://pcpartpicker.com/list/gbtbD2
Intel - Core i7-8700K
Corsair - H60 Cooler
Asus - ROG STRIX Z390-E
G.Skill - Flare X Series 16 GB (2 x 8 GB) DDR4-3200
Samsung - 860 Evo 1 TB
Thermaltake - Versa J25
Keeping: Thermaltake 750w PS, Monitor, Mouse/Keyboard, 2x Toshiba 2gig HDs (data and backup data), HP CD/DVD if there is room.
Any thoughts or advice on this proposed system? I like Intel but happy to go back to AMD, love ASUS but also happy to look elsewhere. Hoping to upgrade in the next month, in the U.S.
Thanks!
