What was the hardest for you so far?
Getting into Medical school?
First Year?
Second year?
Boards?

probably first and second year. its alot of studying, and then you take your first step of the boards after second year. third and fourth year are time consuming, but more fun b/c there is far less book work, and your actually in the hospitals seeing patients

Congrats, are you going to specialize?

yes, im doing anesthesiology

Hang in there & don't overspend the first few years out in the work world, I see a lot of docs screw up their lives by livin' the life, when they need to focus on a sustainable lifestyle....

<--knows a lot of docs that are in their 60's & 70's that'll die on the job rather than ever retire because they can't control their spending or their families leech off from them so heavily...

Awesome. I'm applying to med school this summer. All the Ohio public schools, Northwestern, Chicago, NYU, Mount Sinai, Albert Einstein, Cornell, Stanford, Yale, and a few others.

I've got above average MCAT and GPA for all of them, but I'm East-Indian and male so that doesn't help

yeah, i know the temptation is great. alot of the anesthesiologists are getting hired out of residency between 250k and 350k a year. thats quite a big jump after making 40k in residency.

I've noticed a lot of female med students in the last few years, it's a trip to see a team of them (all female) round on patients.

Wow. Congrats. That's one of the hardest ones out there. On the plus side, they are also one of the highest paid too.

If you look at the application figures since '97, the number of applications from males has been plummetting so fast it's not even funny.

Women are on track to outnumber men at medschools either this year, or by '05 at the latest. That said, they still have affirmitive action for females at med schools.

If you are a black female with a 3.0 GPA and a 25 MCAT, you can go any where you want.

i find that sad, b/c it is true, and at the same time, a white male with a 3.7, and a 29 on the mcat could have trouble getting into many schools

What were most of your GPAs/MCAT scores?

Is it me, or is it harder to get into med school in Canada (Ontario). To be safe, you need 10's on all of your scores, and a Q...

The VR section scares me...

don't forget that anesthesiologists are also the ones that are most likely to get sued

How long does an anesthesiology residency take? And may I ask what your Step 1 score was to land this match?

Congrats and as moose mentioned don't overspend. I know of MDs who have overspent and even though they reel in the cash they don't have as much to show for it as they may like.

Congrats!!! Good luck with your prelim. Where are you doing your prelim and your residency (if I may ask)? Just curious....

I'm just finishing up my third year in med school at UCLA and am looking forward to finally starting fourth year! But I'm still trying to decide what I should do...Medicine or ER. I figure that once I do my sub-I's, I should have a better idea. Another question though, Anesthesia is a close third for me, and I'm also curious why/how you decided to go into it? At this point I'm pretty confused, so anything would help me!

I really appreciate all of your comments...

Congrats again!
