$10 for lunch is pretty much the norm here in So Cal unless you're ordering off the value menu. Fast food or restaurant its gonna be about $10 a person.

Unless you're like me who only drinks water so I save $2 bucks right there. Soda off the fountain is where they make their huge profits.

Next time, order it right. You have to get their "intended' burger for best taste. When you go in, ask for "the works" or "Everything".

You get:
-mustard
-catsup
-mayo
-pickles
-grilled onions
-grilled mushrooms
-cheese
-lettuce
-tomato

It really is perfection like this. If you go in and just order lettuce and cheese, you're going to be disappointed.

That's not a Burger, that's just a bunch of stuff inside a bun.

5 Guys and In n Out are the best large chain fast food burgers bar none. Have never heard of this 'Chee' place (live in TX, travel to Socal semi-frequently), but it sounds good. Fuddruckers is terrible (at least around here). A lot of places vary in quality widely. Wendy's sadly is pretty bad around here, but better than BK. Surprisingly Jack is really good around here, big change from a few years back. McDonalds new 'premium' burger isn't bad. BK is just vomit (at least around here), was much better years ago.

Quality Non-frozen fresh beef will always taste better than frozen patties, no way around it. Virtually any great burger you ever have in your life will be from fresh beef.

I want to stab myself in the eye everytime someone here tries to upscale pizza or beer. Please don't do it with hamburgers.

I can have a great hamburger that's been frozen anyone that says otherwise probably considers male face care products daily.

5 Guys did NOT impress me when I had it for the first time recently. They didn't offer cheese to go on the fries, and the bacon was obviously cooked weeks ago and it was like plastic. I realize its fast food, but why can't they cook the bacon with the burger if its won so many awards and they set the bar so high?

I won't be back.

Hmm, perhaps 5 guys varies from location to location as do most chains. I've only been there a handful of times, but the bacon was just as good as any fast food bacon I've ever seen.

Cheese on fries? Really? I guess different strokes, but holy crap cheese fries are a meal in themselves, I could never see being able to stomach both a burger AND cheese fries simultaneously. Hah, reminds me of this one time a friend and I went to Outback to celebrate a business deal over steaks and beer, and we made the mistake of ordering cheese fries. After knocking out about half the obscene stack of super greasy cheese fries, we couldn't touch our steaks.

I think our idea of Cheese Fries is very different. A simple cheese cup or if they melt some shredded cheese on top of all those fries would be nice change up and I would hardly call it a meal.

Hmm I could see that, and wouldn't mind that style a bit. Here in Texas we have Sonic, and Outback, and a few other places, and their idea of 'cheese fries' is about 2 lbs of fries slathered in a deep layer of melted cheese (and often with chili thrown in just for the hell of it). It can be good for a few bites, but I am always shocked when someone can polish off a whole order.

LOL :

I just found the deadly Outback fries. 2900 calories? No wonder it took me and my buddy down for the count.

But yeah, a toned down normal serving size with a cheese dip or light cheese topping would be welcome as an option.

They deep fry their bacon in large batches. Not a fan (and I usually like bacon on my burgers).

are you retarded?

they cook their bacon on the grill every morning. Bacon does not get stored overnight, it is a 1 day thing... made in the morning, disposed of, or taken home by employees, every night...

If you think a frozen hamburger tastes as good as one of these I want to know where you're buying your frozen hamburger.

I went to Philly this weekend and had both Pat's and Geno's steaks. MY GOD ARE THEY OVERRATED. Nathan's chain restaurants' philly steaks are just as good if not better. I just can't believe anyone anymore... I've had Five Guys plenty of times and it's pretty good though. Load that sucker up and watch sauce drip down your hand.

The fries are THE worst I've ever had, hands down. I prefer absolutely everyone elses, even jack in the box and burgerville (and I don't like either of them). The burgers are pretty good, but any local shop or greasy spoon beats em hands down. About 1/3 overpriced to boot.

I was soooooooo excited when they opened here, and after trying em twice have concluded most of America has its head up its ass.

I think my problem with Five Guys' is similar to others here.

If i want to pay three fifty and get two hamburgers, I'll go to In n Out.

If I want to pay 8-10 dollars for a good hamburger and fries where I have to sit down (I've never had the opportunity to go to a Five Guys Drive-thru but I assume they exist), I'll go to a real restaurant (like burgers and brew in Davis!) where I can also get a beer.

There isn't a spot for Five Guys. Is it better than In N Out? Yeah, a bit better. Is it as good as a good restaurant burger? No. Is it fast enough or accessible enough to be fast food? Not really.

Not saying I'd never eat there. There's one at the food court in the mall in Durham, and that was a good option around there, but it just seems limited.

However, maybe I'm spoiled by having local restaurants that have good, not extremely expensive burgers. What are other people's experience with this?

Never said that they stored them overnight. And they do deep fry their bacon.

It’s worth mentioning the bacon is deep fried.

I am so in love with the deep fried crispy bacon I want to marry it. Thus, I always get a Little Bacon Cheeseburger with mayo, hot sauce, pickles, fresh onions and lettuce.

If I get a burger from there, all it has on it is ketchup, lettuce, tomatoes, mayo and grilled onions. I'd get hot sauce as well, but I've found that the hot sauce really destroys the bun by the time I get it back to the office.

Took a female friend to 5 Guys for her birthday fully prepared to be amazed. I wasn't. I did like the fries, though.

Out of curiosity, Perky, did you try the cajun fries?

I recently had Five Guys that opened up in Norwalk, CA and it was good as most burgers are but massively overpriced and not great. It's not that close to me so I'll probably never go again.

It's good, not great, and it's a poor value compared to burgers you can get at "real" restaurants. The french fries are lacking in quality. I guess if it's considered fast food, it's near the top as far as my experiences go. That's not saying much though.

My office is about 1000 feet from a local place that makes hamburgers that put stuff like Five Guys to shame, so I might be biased.
