I second the "small order of fries" suggestion.

Five guys > in-n-out

On a side note --- In-n-out is total garbage. How three separate locations of that chain could give me food poisoning (in 3 different parts of the state of CA) is beyond me. SO glad that crap hasn't expanded across the country.

We’ve got one now and it’s like a ½ mile from my house. I still haven’t been but I plan on going soon.

What should I get?

Bacon cheeseburger with extra bacon, add mushrooms. No other toppings. Deliciousity.

Small fries is enough to split between 2-3 people.

You can get a single burger, fries for 2, and a drink for under $6. Where's the overpriced part?

It's around $5 here just for the burger in the DC Metro Area. Apparently I'm not the only one who thinks it's a scam (Chicago area):

Few places have the balls to jack up their prices in this economy, and yet this email came in yesterday: “I just went to the Five Guys in Midtown earlier and I noticed they raised all of the prices on the menu (especially the fries) small went up 80 cents and the burgers look like they went up 30-40 cents. That is the 2nd time they have raised them in the last year. Burger and Fries now is $12 (including tax) up from $11 which is still crazy.” Nice.

That's about what it would cost here as well. Where do you live?

While I love 5 Guys I always go in knowing I'm going to pay more, just like Fuddruckers.

Pricing didn't seem that bad to me. Wasn't cheap by any means, but unless you buy dollar menu stuff, you'd pay that for fast food at most places.

You think that's bad though, a lot of the food places where I used to live raised prices, made it so you had to pay for all the extra toppings (one place made mustard and lettuce the only topping it came with standard?), and started somehow screwing up making a burger (the meat looked like they scooped up some roadkill and threw it on the grill, didn't taste much better either, the patty was all misshapen and its just baffling that you would make burgers like that, and this was various restaurants both chains and local places so I don't know what the deal was).

Hah I think that's just DC/Metro area being over-priced like usual. As for In-N-Out, I think I'm still holding a rosy view of it b/c I've only had it like 3 times (basically whenever I travel to the West Coast). Last I had was the location in Vegas - it was great.

But going back to best burger - I would say yes, b/c I haven't had anything better in the area. Compare it to Fuddruckers, Hamburger Hamlet (LMAO), Ruby Tuesdays, etc. - none of them compare. Red Robin does have the one with an egg on it...but I don't think that's a popular choice for most. The only one I would really mention is Houston's...but they kinda disappeared overnight. No idea how or why.

My bacon cheeseburger and reg fry were $9. Hell just a regular fry was $3. And btw, this is an EXTREMELY cheap area to live. Cheaper than almost anyplace I've been, so it's not a cost of living thing. They're just charging through the roof at that one restaurant.

Ate at one a couple weeks back, thought it was great.

For people complaining about the buns, I honestly can't say I've had any burger ever that had what you'd call good bread. I could see if they took forever and the buns got really mushy, but it wasn't a problem at the one I ate at.

I loved their fries, my favorite style. I also ate at Red Robin for the first time and while I liked them ok I hate their crappy steak fries (they can't at least season them?).

I don't think I've ever had Red Robin fries that weren't seasoned...plus they put a container of their seasoning on the table. Not that they're my favorite, but my experience seems to differ from yours.

Don't get the double burger next time fatty And dont go there alone- the fries are enough for 2 so you just order 1 regular. I go there with my wife once a week, we leave stuffed, and our bill is about $11 after tax.

yeah, me and my wife split a double with fries when we go. 11$ is not bad to feed two. i don't understand how one person can eat a double with fries.

That's completely useless. I eat alone 90% of the time, so charging me for two when I'm feeding one is an utter waste.

Also, I can get just as much food (and far better) other places for 2/3 the price, so nothing you said changes the fact that they overcharge by a great deal.

I got my first burger from there a few days ago and it was the best burger ive ever eaten.

bacon burger with everything on it - I also got the large fries, but when I opened the bag to get my burger, it was all the way on the bottom. They literally filled my bag up with french fries.

Hmm, the service wasn't very great that night, so it might have just been bad. Was completely plain steak fries (no skin, which would have made them better and why I loved Five Guys fries) with a thing of ranch to dip them in if you just got fries (didn't include it with the burgers but I tried some of my sister's and it was just ranch).

I'm in NW Ohio. The small burger is like $3.50 or so (only first timers or fatties get the regular burger ), and their fries are under $3 for a regular.

Bah, the regular fries are enough for one person .

I remember the first time I ever went to a Five Guys and I asked for a large. The person informed me that the large was really meant for more than one person, so I downgraded. I guess they got plenty of people used to McDonald's-sized fries there.

Burgers are tasteless (I like mine plain w/ cheese) and it's too expensive for what you get. Almost $10 for a burger, fries and a drink.

In N Outs secret menu is so fucking dumb, just put the shit on your goddamn menu already

I've been eating at In N Out my whole life, it really isnt that great IMO

Maybe I have just had waaaaay to much of it, or it just isnt as good as it was like 8 years ago.

Never had 5 guys, the way you guys cream over it, it is probably just as good as In N Out

See, what you're doing here is self defeating prophecy- "People like to eat there, therefore it MUST be all in their heads and they're hyping it up for....well...for some reason, so it must not be good!"

I also agree about the small fries. I got large fries and they just filled up a paper bag with fries. I'll be eating them all week.

Does anyone here eat those peanuts in the barrels when you wait in line at 5 guys? I saw some kid playing with them today, I think I'm steering clear of that appetizer.

It's pretty good. Better than fast food, considerably worse than many of my local restaurants. They seem way too proud of themselves, the interior is a bunch of news articles they apparently paid people to write about how they're the best burger ever.

The order of fries is big enough for two people.
