Meh I went to the one here in Colorado Springs, their fries are good but the burger was nothing to write home about.

Still no fries! There have never been fries at Charlie's! Just the best burgers in our particular solar system, imho.

Well, I went to Charlie's on Sunday based on your recommendation. I thought the burgers were pretty decent. Something with a home like quality about the place and the burger. And the bun was good.

However, I didn't think they were the best I've ever eaten. In fact, I probably won't go back there any time soon (was about a 40 minute drive for me, which is generally a bit much when I think "hey, I want a burger!").

IMHO of course

Fries are cooked in peanut oil and they have giant open bins of peanuts around.

Ahhhhhhhh. for one thing, I've never been to a 5 guys.

So, I was thinking long and hard about burger joints and their practices, then reading the other posts, trying to figure out what the hell prompted his comment, and then deduced that it simply came out of left field.

I'm allergic to peanuts, but peanut oil is no problem for me. Yes, my friends always randomly act surprised when I say this, b/c they always forget until I have a reaction (i.e. Mongolian Grill).

I respect your opinion...dunno if I'd drive 40 min. for Charlies if I didn't have a real hankerin.

BUT you can't just leave that one out there....if Charlies isn't the best you've ever had, you've got to tell us what is!

There's this place called "The Weary Traveler" in Madison, WI. They have a burger called the "bad breath burger" or something like that. That might be my favorite burger. It isn't your typical burger but it's loaded with garlic and onions and other bad breath giving goodies. And the meat and bun are top notch. I get one every time I visit my sister (who lives there).

Here are some reviews of the place:

True.... but only because In-n-Out > *.

That being said, since I'm in Atlanta, Five Guys is a decent substitute.

yeah, but the thing is: that's not true at all.... :sneaky:

It's certainly no different than just about any burger joint out there. Plenty of local places with similar prices that far outclass In N Out.

...that being said, a Burgermeister just opened around here. I've heard good things. Anyone?

Well, ok, all (reasonably large) chains?

Besides, you're in the Bay Area, right? California people get all of the cool stuff before we get it on the East Coast.... Trader Joe's I'm looking at you....

Locally I like Val's and St. John's (especially on half off days), but as far as value goes, it's really tough to beat In N Out. Where else can you get a medium rare double cheeseburger for $3.05?

I was with him till I read this:

Most fast-food restaurants serve dehydrated frozen fries -- that's because if there's water in the potato, it splashes when it hits the oil. We actually soak our fries in water. When we prefry them, the water boils, forcing steam out of the fry, and a seal is formed so that when they get fried a second time, they don't absorb any oil -- and they're not greasy.

Dude, I can see through the bag there is so much grease!

They just don't let them drain much before serving.

I must be on Zin's ignore list , since my post right above usapatriots "Im allergic to peanuts" comment asked if anyone ate the peanuts in the barrels at 5 guys.

Well, I'm from Raleigh. There's been a Trader Joes in the area for a few years now. You sure Atlanta doesn't have one?

besides, I'd trade all the lame overrated west coast franchises for a single Bojangle's in my neighborhood.

There are, thankfully, a couple of TJ's in the neighborhood now.... but they certainly took their time getting here!

I'm fairly sure that we still have Bojangle's in town (they are still in S.C., right?) But right now, either a Bojangles or an In-N-Out would be delicious.

If you're eating Five Guys often enough that cost is an issue then your health problems will vastly outweigh your financial ones.

i've only eaten there once and prob wont go back as long as there is a in n out around
