Haven't had problems with DA2 on a 580 setup with dual monitors. I run the game on my primary.

I have had problems running a movie (or any application with video) on the second monitor, in either windowed or fullscreen game mode. Bioware games tend to be very fickle that way, which is frustrating.

Otherwise, I've run the game on a few other setups, multi-monitor 6970 and single-monitor 460, neither problematic.

My biggest problem seems to be the decreasing depth from DA1, which as a traditional RPGer, I miss.

New patch has normalized performance somewhat for Nvidia cards. Performance is still pretty bad for cutting edge hardware in a game that doesn't even look very good.

Yes the driver hack does make some difference, about a 25% improvement. Hopefully nvidia will actually release something to fix it officially, rather than this user hack.

Also they need to fix SLI, as it's terrible in the game. Showing about 40% GPU usage across each card, but only 35-40fps

Per nvidia they are going to try and have a fix for their performance issues next month

"ManuelG indicated that the driver with DA2 improvements was pushed back till 1st week in April. Also he had said that usually when new drivers come out they release a beta first and then soon after that they release a WHQL driver.

So, the 267.84's were not supposed to be the ones with the DA2 improvements over the 267.59's cuz
1) wrong week
2) they're not beta, the 267.84's are WHQL."

Yea, looks to be about 2 more weeks.

Finally played a bit of DA2, it's actually pretty decent. Still not as nice as DAO, but relatively fun nonetheless. Just kept settings on high + 4xAA instead of very high @ slideshow and it looked great.

AMD also helped with SHOGUN 2 DX11 implementation. Could we be seeing the same thing happen again?

Is AMD Purposely crippling performance on Nv cards? Or is optimizing the game code for the architecture causing nV cards to perform extremely poorly?

Nvidia Shogun 2 issues

Maybe AMD is up to the sort of shen's nvidia usually has done. Forcing NV to play catch up with driver release fixes.

Been playing Shogun 2 this past week, it's an awesome and beautiful game in one package. Truly a masterpiece for the PC. It hammers my setup even at 1080p, the graphics are top notch (character details, shader effects) and when there's a 4,000+ men battle.. punishing.

Can't be certain if its CPU bottleneck or not, RTS typically eat CPU cycles.

[H] review of DA2 performance.

http://www.hardocp.com/article/2011/03/28/dragon_age_2_gameplay_performance_review/2

Performance Disparity

Obviously, performance is seriously degraded on NVIDIA video cards, when compared to AMD video cards. A quick Google search showed us that the problem is widespread, with very little outward activity on it from NVIDIA. This performance issue has been a problem since the Dragon Age 2 demo. Before the retail game was released, NVIDIA released a series of beta drivers, citing improved compatibility with Dragon Age 2. In our investigation, we found that "improved compatibility" does not necessarily mean "improved performance." NVIDIA and BioWare have some work to do to get this game running faster on GeForce video cards.

We have seen a lot of games benefit from DirectX 11 implementations, and Dragon Age 2 is no exception.[...]For this game, DirectX 11 brings SSAO, tessellation, global illumination with radiosity lighting, support for extensive small point lights for effects, and diffusion depth of field, and screen space ambient occlusion. Of these features, SSAO, DDOF and the new lighting renderer make the biggest differences for Dragon Age 2.

You really need to either get some AMD cards or stop whining:

Update: We've updated all benchmark scores for Nvidia graphics cards using the Forceware 267.59 drivers that fix performance issues in Dragon Age II when using the DirectX 11 rendering mode. Findings and remarks have also been made current accordingly.

"driver hack"...lol

i'm planning on getting DA2 soon, should i download the texture pack with my 5850 1GB (flashed with 5870 bios to 900/1125)? will it kill my FPS due to lack of VRAM?

On High, without the dx11 effects. The 5870 is beating the gtx580 by a huge margin. I suspect Bioware may have went very shader heavy as the 5870 is approaching 6950 levels without dx11. This also explains the lower perf of Fermi cards. But they do catch up with dx11 stuff with this recent driver. Though SLI scaling still isn't good.

I've seen some posts saying that nvidia's poor performance is related to I believe what DA2 is using in DX11 called SDAO? or SBAO? rather than the standard SSAO and this is what is killing nvidia cards in the game.

The SLI scaling continues to be piss poor as well. I am about halfway through the game though, and it's pretty good

I've read in some reviews that there's a lot of recycled sceneries with the dungeons. Have you noticed it as well?

It's true. The dungeons are very recycled. The story is good and I am enjoying the gameplay. It's a little simplified from the first one, but neither were that complicated to begin with.

Up to 516% in Dragon Age 2 (SLI 2560x1600 8xAA/16xAF Very High, SSAO on)
Up to 326% in Dragon Age 2 (1920x1200 8xAA/16xAF Very High, SSAO on)

it seems fixed.

270.51 beta released.
http://forums.anandtech.com/showthread.php?t=2154172

Give them a try Groover!! This is what you've been waiting for!! Give it hell.

http://forums.anandtech.com/showpost.php?p=31473706&postcount=16

Better but still can't be maxed with nvidia, even on a rig like mine.

Now hopefully they can get Shogun 2 fixed and their drivers that cause gtx 590s to explode or wait the lying reviewers and end-users or wait the bios or what the hardware or... well hopefully they can fix it ()
