Hey guys.
Almost evertime i turn on my computer it goes to the post screen and sais:new CPU installed hit F1 to configure Bios (or something like that)F2 load preset default settings.
-Sometimes when i restart or turn the computer on normally it will boot to windows.
-My bios settings are never erased I just get in the habit of hitting F1 and then F10 to save settings, and then letting it boot normally.

What can be causing this. I have had this computer for maybe 4 months. See description below.

Thanks

Try a BIOS update. It doubt its the chip (never heard of a chip prob like that) and I really doubt the RAM. Leaves the mb IMHO. Worth a shot.

It is possible that your CMOS battery is dead. You can find a replacement at walmart for $3. It is just a watch type battery.

The cheapest and safest thing would be to try another cmos
battery first and then if that doesn't fix it then try to flash the
bios.

I've had bios flashes go awry so I'm not much on flashing
unless I've tried other possibilites first.

When you replaced the battery, did you use the "Clear CMOS" jumper too, to clear out all of the old settings? If you simply swapped the battery, it probably didn't do much, as the CMOS can keep its settings for several minutes without power sometimes.

You could also try clearing the cmos. THis is usually a jumper on the motherboard (see your documentation).

Well it did have something to do with the jumper. Apparently when CMOS was cleared 3 or 4 months ago i(actually my friend) didnt put the jumper back on the right pins. The jumper was on pin 1 when it should have been on pin 1&2. Anyways i cleared CMOS again turned comp off and on 5 times and no new cpu message. Very frustrating when the overclock would get reset all the time...also for some strange reason my idle temps have gone down to 25cpu/25case from 29/29 using MBM5. Thanks for the help i would have never figured that one out. I was about to RMA the thing after months of trying to figure it out.
