Me, I wouldn't even bother with the bake. Risky, generally doesn't work long-term, and there may be some cancer risks in there with the release of some of those chemicals during baking.

Just buy another card.

:O I can get cancer now from doing that??

hmmmm......I vote for a poll; Should I bake the card, or should I not? A simple "Yes" or a "No" would suffice. After some time, I'll count up the "Yes" and the "No" and see where this leads to.

You can go more in-depth in your answer, besides only saying "Yes" or a "No" explaining why you chose to reply it that way...what facts can be concluded after and what are just opinions?

...that's it? I guess everyone's going with that last person's post.....no more replies as to whether it a yes or a no?

I was actually expecting more than one reply by now....

I'd say bake it. What do you have to lose? If you are listening to folks saying it can release toxic fumes, open the windows and leave the room. Take your pets too.

I baked my 8800GTS a year ago and it is still in my youngest son's computer. I'll be upgrading it later this week or next, but baking worked like a charm and I haven't had one problem with it since then.

Um...huh....

I heard that it is possible for the capacitors to *leak* or and *burst* and the PCB board to *warp* after this....also if it "de-solders" the chips on the back of the card; the card's obviously not going to work after *baking*...:hmm:

Also I surveyed some people and most, well actually in fact all of them, replied that it's going to ruin the card even more by doing so, let alone *revive* or and *fix* the card...a couple of them, out of those people I surveyed, were computer techies; so they'd know everything about computers, and *they* even said it won't work....:\ And one of those people I surveyed said it was just a prank, just to get you doing it and end up with a *toasted* graphics card that's worse than before....

I've even youtubed for some videos on "baking graphics cards", and of the ones I've seen, they just *skipped* or rather fast forwarded the "baking" process of it so I don't actually see it in process....I know it's to speed up the video tutorial or whatever it is, but I'd rather see it *all* than have parts or and bits of pieces cut out from the video tutorial or whatever it was....

Zach.

PS - I also added a poll to this thread so you can vote yes or no.

What in the world do you have to lose? A 7600 GS? Oh the horror! I think my cellphone has a more capable graphics processor.

That's what happens, if you leave it in there for too long. Lots of mess to clean up afterwards. Wrap it up in foil beforehand.

Why the hell not? Anyway it only works because the BGA solder on some NV GPUs was shoddy to begin with.

It is not a prank, I can guarantee you that. As I said earlier, I did it with an 8800GTS that was artifacting all over the place and it worked perfectly. If you follow the instructions and bake for the right time at the right temp, it can reflow the solder, which is what you want. Can a capacitor rupture? I suppose so, especially if one or more of your caps are already bad. Could the board warp? Again, I suppose so. But at this point, what difference does it make? I mean, I'm failing to see the controversy in this and can't quite understand why all of your experts recommend against this. What's your alternative? If the card is thrashed, you either toss it in the rubbish pile or you try to bake it. (Unless, of course, it has a lifetime warranty; but in that case, I'm assuming this thread wouldn't exist.) Baking doesn't always work because in some cases the problem is not with cracks in the solder and if it's something other than that, baking isn't going to do a thing. But if your card is going to go in the trash anyway, what's the big deal with taking this step first? The most you have to lose is an hour or so. Again, I fail to understand why this is such a big deal...
